I found an interesting document:

Imperial Tobacco - Bergerac, France Germ Bank
Les Nicotianées en Collection à L'Institut du Tabac, 3rd edition, 1999.
http://www.imperial-tobacco-bergerac.com/pdf/ITB_collection.pdf [46 MB]

The text is in French, but it includes some wonderful full color photos of various Nicotiana species and their blossoms.

Nicotiana_tabacum_seed_x10000.JPG

This is an electron micrograph of tobacco seed at x10,000 magnification.

The document also lists details on all their Nicotiana germ plasm accessions (about 1000). The ITB is France's version of ARS-GRIN. One interesting pair of entries, with their accession dates is:

Mont Calme Jaune 1950 Sota, Switzerland [that would be Mont Calme Yellow]
Mont Calme Brun 1957 Sota, Switzerland

So, I guess MCY is a legitimate variety.

I tried reading it but it's all French to me!... :D
Good find on the MC-Brun. I'm planning to grow some next year.
With any luck I'll be able to keep my varieties down to about 7

I believe MCY is a cross with Burley, whereas MCB is a cross with Havana. MCY, according to FmGrowit, looks just like a burley, while I would expect MCB to have a smaller, Spanish tobacco leaf.

Since they are both 50+ year old varieties, I would consider them heirloom.
