Virginia bright leaf, yellow twist bud, and prilep. Thoughts/input? Limited to air curing at the moment...

Excellent starting point. Traditional (if there ever existed a tradition in blending commercial cigs) is 50 VA 40 burley and 10 oriental. You can start from there and adjust to suit your taste. I add some N. rustica and Maryland to my daily blend, and reduce the bright leaf. But I like strong cigs.

I would recommend sun curing the bright leaf and prilep. Sun curing the bright leaf gives a sweetness that falls between air cured and flue cured. Personally, I didn’t really care for air cured bright leaf (Just my opinion). The oriental varieties like Prilep are traditionally sun cured. I wilt/partially yellow in the shop and then move to full sun. I would not sun cure the burley, they sun scald easily and the taste is less than desirable. Your variety selections are excellent.

I wish there was a way i could sample a blend with them before i committed to growing them. Aye yay yay lol
My blend:
45% flue cured Virginia’s (or sun cured or both)
20% burley
20% Maryland
5% dark air
10% oriental (Prilep or Katerini from WLT)
when I’m feeling ornery I will decrease the Virginia 5% and increase the dark air 5% for more kick and stronger flavor. I blend by volume rather than by weight. Try some whole leaf from www.wholeleaftobacco.com to help decide on the classes of tobacco you like in your blend, that could help with variety selection.
