Combo for experimenting with Blends

Hi All.. I am pulling together a 3 lb order of fillers from WLT and have selected the following

I already have the following in stock

• 1/4 lb each of Dominican Seco & Corojo 98 Viso fillers
• Wrappers are a combo of Indo Besuki NO, Ecuador Cameroon Wrapper, Nicaraguan Seco Wrapper
• Binders are Habano 92 binder, Nicaraguan Seco Binder and Indo Besuki NO binder

The intent is to have a collection that can create multiple blends of mild to medium strength cigars..

Any feedback on the selection will be highly appreciated.

Nice variety. Also remember that you can sort through a pound of filler (of any variety), and nearly always find at least a few leaves that will make perfect wrappers or serviceable binders. Pay no attention to the use class ("wrapper", "binder", "filler"), but the grade of each leaf.

My approach to cigar blending is

• wrapper: half-leaf with no holes
• binder: half-leaf with few holes
• filler:
  • a little bit of dark
  • the rest lighter

There are no rules.

I agree with Bob. I always sort through my filler and pull out some nice binder and wrapper. I don't see it as cheap binder and wrapper, I see it as perfectly serviceable binder and wrapper that slipped through the cracks and ended up in the filler pile. Their loss, my gain.

One other thought: If you use a thick wrapper leaf, select a thin binder leaf. If the wrapper is thin, then either a thick or thin binder works well. Thick + thick may lead to poor burn.

Loving this approach. Would the same in reverse also apply.. The wrappers and binders that get damaged, can they be used as filler as well ? is there level of fermentation and ageing similar to what one gets as fillers ?

Mix and match any way you like. Just go by the appearance of the leaf. For some wrapper leaf, the fermentation process is carried out at a lower temperature, and for a longer period of time, in order to maximize the appearance of the leaf.
