It's funny to me now but I was confusing a heating blanket with a heating pad, For resons I won't go into. I see now how you can get the poundage.
No LOLs, when it comes to electrical wiring. Both of my kilns are wired according to electrical housing code, and have proper grounding, as well as thermostatic control of the heat. I know that many of the kilns of others do as well.
An appliance doesn't have to come from a retail marketeer in order to be safe. There's a difference between a glitzy cabinet and a safe device.

Okay the homemade kiln gallery was a bad example. I had no intentions of pointing anybody specific or what they made out. It must have came out wrong then what I was thinking. Janetta, don't feel that way about it! Some points need to be seriously talked about, often. I don't think anybody was yelling at you. DS's point that pretty does not equal safe, is a good one. Creativity with electrical devices does have real risks. The ideas and conversations that happen here are what make this forum fun and important, even with the bumps.
If it works for you good for you. innovation is the key. There is more than one way to skin a cat.
