I have a fistfull of test cigars I rolled to try Prilep out. Each has a labeled blend with just a pinch of Prilep for sweetness. There's absolutely nothing wrong with them except that I have come to the conclusion Prilep gives me a headache. It does sweeten the blend, as intended. It imparts a bit of cigarette flavor. Not my faves; but nothing wrong with the way they taste. It's just, each time I spark one up, I get headache. I have to think that Prilep is not for me.

Hate to throw them out. Anyone want 'em? They are not the prettiest, cause I rolled them for tasting, not for finish. But they work. Eight or ten sticks; maybe a dozen. I'll even throw in some Dixie shades to fill up a priority mail box.

I don't mean to say anything about prilep. It may only be me. I am affected by it. That doesn't mean anyone else would get a headache from it.

Honestly though, I think the only way Prilep can affect you like that is due to the ammonia in the leaf. Sweating/kilning/fermenting leaf draws the ammonia out, so you're unaccustomed to ammonia.

No,no don't look at it that way. It can absolutely help someone. To tell "I do not like this" isn't the same thing as this is a bad thing.. I think it's a good thing to tell about what stuff you and me likes and not like. Everyone wins at it..

And some times a tobacco makes better in a mix and not so good alone

Airing out the bag of leaf could help. I know I need to do that to some of the Burley when I open a bag that has been stored awhile. The ammonia odor can be quite strong from the Burley. I've never smoked any before airing out the bag so I couldn't speak to the headaches. It makes sense though. Also check for mold on leaf in the bag. Mold could cause allergy like symptoms, so headaches are a possibility. I'm not sure the mold has to actually be on the leaf that you smoked, there could be mold somewhere down in the bag that is sending spores throughout the bag.

Seriously, I love Prilep in my pipe blends, especially if its flue-cured. But I believe it leads a cigar's flavor astray. In Macedonia, most of the Prilep tobacco goes into cigarette manufacture.

I find a little bag of left over prilep if someone wants it. Got loads of sumatra binder I'm not apt to use. I'll put that in another thread.
