*update*
i took a little hiatus from trying to make my own tobacco because getting the tobacco in the right case and then shredding it became too much of a hassle. i just recently ordered an electric machine from aliexpress that seems to be a modified electric pasta cutter and its much more forgiving than the handcutter + cordless drill i was using. thought i'd post an update on what ive learned in the mean time

first of all i bought my first order of whole leaf from tabakblatter, this was 2 years ago, today i pulled it out of the open bag it was stored in for all that time and some of it was STILL in high case so i think the moisture content was very different from what i was expecting and this could have affected the end results

second i was entirely unaware of which tobaccos to use in a blend and just found out that what i had originally ordered and used as the majority of the blend was virginia bright leaf which as i understand it is quite low in nicotine content. the virginia i ordered after was likely virgina red which as i understand it is higher in nicotine content, thus "magically" fixing my kick issue even though i bought what i thought to be the same leaves.

casing did seem to improve my original blend both the homemade casing i attempted and the bottles of pre-made casing liquid i ordered online, though the ordered ones had humectants in them and one of the batches i over sprayed never seemed to fully dry anymore afterwards, but even without the casing the better choice in leaves and dryer more consistent humidity seemed to significantly improve the end product even without adding a casing.

hope this may help someone running into similar issues as i have, cheers

Just rereading and the last comment on casing that can and may be the problem. Good tobacco doesn't need casing.
