Now I'm afraid to. Spontaneity and authenticity are often the point of my simple videos. Cigar rolling mid-video wrapper tear? Keep the camera rolling, and see if Flash Gordon can survive that one.

I think this takes you to the whole list, in reverse sequence.

I should have expected this.. I have watched your rolling videos too haha. I guess I watch a lot of tobacco videos! Still have yet to roll that first cigar.
You should do more vids Bob, they're fun!

This is a complete how-to for someone who has never rolled a cigar before at all, but wants to try. If that's you, then this video was made for you.

It covers the simple stuff you can't find anywhere else, like how to know if your leaf is damp enough, how to know how much leaf you need to use, how to mix your glue, and everything else from beginning to end. Best of all, it shows how to roll cigars using just the tools you already have around the house. All you have to buy is a $30 blend kit from Whole Leaf Tobacco, which will provide you enough filler, binder, and wrapper to make 30 or 40 presentable cigars, along with cigar glue, enough of everything you need so you can find out whether cigar rolling is for you.

Hello all,

Hope you are well, is it me or has the link for the video at the start of this thread disappeared? If anyone can share it that would be great thank you. Also, wondering if anyone with experience can give a rough idea how long it takes to learn to roll a smokable cigar? Thank you

how long it takes to learn to roll a smokable cigar?
An ideal goal! If you roll one, then smoke it before rolling the next, you should be able to have confidence in rolling a smokable cigar after about 10 cigars. Making a reliably pretty cigar (proudly give one to your brother-in-law quality) just requires time and practice.

By contrast, if you roll 10 cigars, before smoking them, then it may take you about 100 cigars to get reliably smokable sticks. (Bob's theory is that you learn cigar rolling by the rolling session and not by the cigar. Your brain and fingertips have to process the results, before you learn. Kind of.)

You don't learn to play the guitar by playing ten hours every other Saturday, but by practicing half an hour every day.
Same here.

Thanks Bob fantastic theory like this a lot, have you got a theory in terms of learning to pack and smoke a pipe? Interested to hear if so. Enjoyed your videos on YT

New roller here, waiting for my supplies to arrive and wanted to say thank you for this really thoughtful and beginner friendly video. I’ve been gawking at the random videos others post on YouTube when they visit the professionals and show them work up the high-end hand rolled cigars to try to learn but this video takes the mystery out of all the steps. Also the “good enough for government” bits made me laugh out loud.

Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words. That's exactly what I was aiming for.
Let's roll!

As a wannabe roller I appreciate this video. I have seen a bunch of other videos shot from a third person angle of a professional roller. This one is much more informative. The two stogies I rolled after watching this the first time look a lot better than the first ones. I definitely understand the process better and the whys behind some of it.

What did I learn? Don’t try to use the whole wrapper - trim it. Use a slick tile to prepare and apply the wrapper on - huge difference! Roll with the veins parallel to the stick - start at the tip of the leaf. How to cut and wrap a flag and why. Use a third hand to control the binder and wrapper - I used my spray bottle.

Thanks for the video!
