Interesting Tobacco Hornworm Control

I found this http://www.aces.edu/dept/extcomm/specialty/march18d02gard.html and thought it worth investigating this year for another T.H. control. I would not have had any trouble capturing a few, until I got some BT.

Theyr'e saying find a big one. Ha ha They have been do studys and getting results from using a miniature wasp that lays eggs on the heads of fire ants. I aint laughing Indianjoe.. too much, I wish them luck. Usualy them "big ones" just ate a whole half a bell pepper.

I have seen those little white ball hanging on tobacco worms . By the time they hatched and grew big enough the other tobacco worms will have eaten all your tobacco .

Interesting idea. I see this "hornworm farming" as a good idea for someone with a small garden that does not use pesticides. Somehow though I just can't imagine BigBonner walking through 20 acres of tobacco with little hornworm containers..

You all won't believe this , but I don't have tobacco worm problem like you do . I don't spray my tobacco for any worm or bug . I will if I have enough of a problem with them .

I do find some worms when topping tobacco . I just stomp them and move on.

On my commercial crop all I use is admire at transplant and sucker control at topping . In the old days we used a pound of orthene at transplant another pound at topping and twice as much sucker control at topping per acre . Other chemicals was used for weed control and blue mold . I have neither of these problems .

I do believe it!.. I've often heard that the fumes from illegal whiskey distillation drive hornworms away. Seems to attract some other kind of insect though, something called a "revenuer"

i actually had 2 old men,,,,,buy some of my plants,,, AND THATS EXACTLLY WHAT THEY WERE GOING TO DO with them,,,,is raise hornworms for fishing bait,,,

i asked them if they lived a long ways from me, because i dont want thier offspring,

...i use THURICIDE h.p.c.

and my worm problem goes away,,,
