Background: Seedlings are 15 days old, and now 1" tall. They are growing in seedling trays, in Miracle-Gro Organic potting soil, indoors, under grow lamps.
Personal opinion on MG Organic potting soil...crap. Very little soil, mostly mulch.
I wanted to chime in on the use of urea based fertilizers. I am very aware of the effects of urea on plants in particular, not just baccy. My beliefs are that urea is a very fast acting fertilizer, and when used in the recommended 20-10-20 that others have stated for use on baccy, will indeed burn baccy plants. So I decided to use 50% strength on my seedlings.
What I have done is began using Miracle-Gro Tomato plant food on my seedlings at 50% strength (1/2 teaspoon to 1 gallon water) . I have enough to sacrifice 1/2 of my seedlings, in the event that things don't go right. I first started misting 1/2 of my seedlings and noticed small performance gains. After 24hrs, I decided to mist and saturate the soil. Over night, I noticed a considerable improvement gain. The 1/2 of the seedlings that were fed are taller than the control that has only been getting water.
I have used urea based fertilizers in the past, and learned the hard way, the first time, that the stuff when used at the recommended strength will burn plants.
I will continue my watering methods/cycles; misting everyday, and watering; saturating the soil once every 3 days.
Summary: Use urea based fertilizers at 50% strength.
