Guess I'm an accidental tobacco farmer. I don't know what to do. I don't want to destroy the Virginia Bright leaf seedlings that need to go into the ground. However, I don't want a yard full of tobacco. I have about 75 extra plants. When I seeded, the first ones didn't grow. I seeded heavy the next batch thinking that the seeds were old and bad. I was very wrong.
Is it legal to sell/give away Nicotiana plants to those over 21 in Illinois since they aren't cut and cured tobacco?

Welcome to the forum. Feel free to introduce yourself in the Introduce Yourself forum.

Each tobacco plant produces ¼ million seeds. Select the hardiest ones for yourself, plus at least 25% extra. Mercilessly kill the rest, or give them away to your reluctant friends, so they can kill them.

So if I grew 25 plants and let them all produce seed, I would get over 6 million seeds. If I let them all live and grow, I would need to plant over two square miles. But then the next year, that would be up to 1.5 trillion plants and 521,000 square miles, or approximately 4.5% of the total arable land on earth.

Within 4 or 5 years, they will devour the Earth! Do your duty, and kill them now, while there's still time. Hurry!

Good luck with the ones you decide to keep and grow. Keep us updated.
Keep trying here. Perhaps a forum member may end up needing some and willing to pay shipping at least. When I bought some seedlings from another forum member, (if I recall correctly, it’s been awhile) the roots and soil were wrapped in very damp paper towels inside open sandwich bags and shipped in a box. They arrived in good condition and transplanted very well. Some of the guys have mentioned getting late starts or losing early starts. Hang in there, maybe someone will show up. What size are they?
