Lakota, Do a search for float tray, There is a long thread from last year with some interesting info. This is my first year using one and I'm very impressed. You know what they say.."Once you go float tray, you never stray!"
Jbd I have read mostly all the posts and that is the reason I decided to go the float tray system. This year i have 360 plants in 12 oz cups, pain in the ass transplanting to bigger pots, watering and making sure they are not root bound. Finding room for all the pots has been a job all by itself. The wife keeps telling me it better be planting time soon. Every window I have with sun has plants in front of it. Two to three more weeks to go and things should be back to normal. Russ
For float trays you need different potting soil . Regular potting soil may not work . The soil for float trays is made to wick up water and is placed in the trays loosly . Do not pack the soil , fill the tray and tap on the side once with your hand LIGHTLY .Over packing will cause spiral root .
Larry the pdf has a section about making your own growing medium. Peat, pearllite and vermiculite and it talks about dimpling the mixture to stop spiral root. Wish I could get your seedlings across the border but i think that is never going to happen. I will be sending you an email sometime this week as soon as I figure what I need. Russ
