I sheared the 1/2 in. square drive shaft off. I was Jambing her full of leaf tho.

Oooh, sorry, that is pretty ugly....does this mean you step down the hp, or increase the size of the drive shaft, or just hold back on the amount of leaf you're shredding at one time?? Can that break be welded?

The shaft just slides thru the gearbox into the half in. Extension welded onto the coupler.
Appears to work like a shear pin.
I like it, keeps me from destroying the machine. It only takes a couple of min. to change.
I just have to feed less leaf.
We timed it 6 pounds in 4 minutes.
still trying to figure out how to make a vid.

Hmmm.....I guess you are right handed....it seems you're a lot more vigilant with that stick in your right hand, but keep sticking your left hand into the hopper thingy. You need to be careful!! It is wonderfully fast, and makes a great shred. I'm jealous, although I don't have nearly enough tobacco to need to shred tubs of it at a time. I also think that the sound of the motor kind of tells you when you're being a bit too 'rough' - at about 2.50 seconds there was a bit of a struggle, and for about 10 seconds or so, before it conked out, I think it was giving a bit of a warning. As you keep using it, you'll get to know it better....:)
Makes my little Teck 1 look like a POS!!!

Bex, You are onto something with the sound. I learned that when my shredder changes pitch ever so slightly that a jamb will follow if I keep stuffing. The machine does not slow down, it just makes an odd sound. I'm not sure a push stick is actually necessary from a safety point of view. The .8mm cut is so close that I do not think the rollers could pull a finger into them. Then again, that's one experiment I'll let someone else do.

I drive an old clunker of a car that I adore, and have learned to listen to it so that I can pick up the slightest differences in sound. Normally you get some kind of audio warning (if you're lucky).....

I go by the sound but she don't give you a chance when she locks up.
I have a Teck 1, Cool machine, I think that would hurt you faster than this machine.
Like jitterbug said I don't think the cutters can actually grab your fingers.
I'm too much of a wuss to try and find out tho.

I have to change my opinion, It just ate my push stick cleaning up for the shredder race.

I was hungry. My finger is there you just can't see it:rolleyes:
Going slowly it took about 10 min. I forgot to time it.
Powermatic shredded 1.86 pounds.
The Polish Shredding Machine shredded 5.37 pounds.
A little less than 3 times faster.
