I would have used them if the would have fit also. I did not want to redo the motor mount to the side of the shredder for a 1/4 inch.
My next delema is getting the gears off to change the bearings. They are pinned.
I think you have outboard bearings on yours.
Mine are inboard and all the baccy dust, beer, water got around the metal shield.
That is why I got the RS type bearing.

How many pounds would you estimate you shredded so far with this?
I ordered the gear motor yesterday. I'll probably start my "re-build" next week.
Good idea to get RS. I was leaning toward a Z bearing but think I'll get RS. I don't need any now but thought it would be a good idea to have a few spares on hand.

At least 300+ pounds.
Each tote has 8 to 10 bags. Each bag is about 2 1/2 pounds.
18 totes total from the last 4 yrs.

Jitterbug, It would be cool to see the difference in proformance between the two heads hooked to the same hp. motors.
But different RPMs gear heads.
your shredder head is a little smaller but I don't think that would matter much.

I keep telling my wife the same... size doesn't matter.. it's the performance that counts..

BTW, How are you going to get the gears off, with a small gear puller?

I grabbed my little two jaw puller from the shop.
they came right off, he has them pinned from turning on the shaft with a 10 penny nail cut off.

The bearings are another story. They are pressed right up to the cutters and are tough to get off.
I got them all off but one. This one don't want to move and I don't want to damage the cutters.
I have a wheel bearing tool at work that might work

Careful on that one. Take some measurements of the shaft and removed bearing. It may have to come off the long way..... Remove cutters then bearing of the long end....

These heads appear to be machined out of one piece of round stock.
if you mess the cutters up you have to replace the whole head.
Brought home my bearing splitter and it got it off in a matter of a minute without any damage.

I'm not sure what size my big shredder takes but my small one takes 10x20x6 metric. They cost about 12-14 dollars APIECE! Must be an odd ball size. I'll try Jbs and see.

Ouch, is right. I don't buy the cheapest china junk either.
there should be a number on the ball bearing shield.
I got some small ones for the powermatic and they weren't cheap either.

.

BT, You are a genius! I checked the bearing. The number is 608Z. This is a 8x22x7, not a 10x20x6. I got the latter dimension off the ebay site for the shredder. I can get 4- 608RS bearings for less than $15.00.
Thanks for the tip.

I got the head all back together.
One thing I want to mention is in Lucas video he said to tighten down the combs 1/4 or 1/2 turn I forget.
By doing so it pushes the combs teeth into the inside of the Dia of the steel cutters.
It is hard on the combs and the cutters and you end up with metal shavings in your Baccy.
I took all the bolts and washers out that pushes the combs down and it works fine that way.
I make sure the cutters are clean and just use finger down pressure on the combs when tightening up the comb bolts.
