Following your blog closely as I am growing the same Burley but I'm about 6 weeks behind you. Good luck.
I transplanted into 3 gallon bags too early, and I grossly overwatered at first. I don't think I'll get more than 8-10 leaves per plant, but I learnt hell of a lot.
Looking for bigger plants on my second grow. I hope your grow goes well.

Most of what I think are the Spectrum bright leaf plants have flowered, and I've now topped them. Most plants are about two feet tall.
What I think are the slower growing KY17 burley plants are only about a foot high. No sign of flowers, but some bottom leaves look like they are ripe (photo).
I think 12-14 hrs per day under lights, before going outside in winter months with overcast days and short hours of sunlight, has confused the plants. It's certainly confused me. Any comments welcome.

Can anyone help me here? An answer to this question will solve all my labelling problems. This plant is either a KY17 Burley or a Spectrum Bright Leaf. After looking at photos on the internet I'm none the wiser.
I want to air dry the burley and sun dry the bright leaf, so it's pretty important that I know which is which.
I would really appreciate some help with this.
Note to myself: Use plastic labels, not lolly sticks from now on.

Do you have a mud lug from each variety you could sample and compare. Perhaps dry out a couple, tear off a chunk and stuff it in the pipe to determine if the flavor is burley or bright leaf.

Here is the original page from @polygon55:

"Spectrum
(Kerti x Large Leaf 38 x Yellow Leaf 36). Transcarpathia. Burley. Medium late. My aging period is 72 days. The bush is about 1.4 m high. The shape of the plant is cylindrical. The flower is pink. The leaf is sessile, light green with whitening throughout the entire blade when ripe, the leaf blade is oval. The number of leaves is 24-26, the length of the middle leaf is 50 cm, width is 30.0 cm."

Spectrum is a white-stem burley! The listing at Northwood Seeds is incorrect.

Bob

EDIT: Northwood Seeds obtained their original Spectrum seed from @polygon55.

On about half of the plants, the bottom two leaves are turning pure white. Leaves three and four look to be going the same way. The leaves are quite thick and not at all sickly. After reading the above post from deluxestogie, I'm guessing these are the Spectrum plants.
Question: Do I prime and hang these leaves, or wait until top leaves start to go yellow/white and stalk cut the whole plant?

Although the 1st and 2nd leaves are pretty small on most Spectrum plants, I've primed and hung them. Apart from being keen to see how these Spectrum white leaves colour cure, it also gives me a chance to get used to how the temperature and RH behave in my curing tent/shed.
All the leaves on the KY17 plants that I had to top because of early flowering, are becoming rugose and mottled. All in all things are going well enough.
Seedlings for a second grow also doing well.

Just had one hell of a thunderstorm with torrential rain. So pleased that I had holes drilled and corked in the trays, as they have filled to the brim. I got pretty wet uncorking, but the trays emptied pretty quickly. I'm on a hill so all okay, but a half mile away on the coast, things are a little damper.

Two plants showing pest damage on the lower leaves. Hunted around and can't find any culprits. Can anyone suggest what type of pest this could be?

I have one plant out of twenty showing what I think is Tobacco Ring Spot Virus. It is the only plant that didn't have just new potting soil. It was a mixture of new and old.
Do I need to destroy this plant?
I've removed the four infected leaves. No other leaves are showing signs of it.
I've read two posts with photos in deluxestogie's 2021 grow log that look similar. Other plants that are touching don't show any signs of it. If this is TRSV, how is it transmitted?

"The tobacco ringspot virus (genus: Nepovirus, family: Secoviridae) is localized to China and North America where it causes insignificant yield loss. It is transmitted nonpersistently by nematodes (Xiphinema americanum), aphids, and mites."
Charles Karavina, Albert Changaya, in Viral Diseases of Field and Horticultural Crops, 2024

I would not destroy the plants.
