this will be your first grow right,??

Yes. Very first. Crazy right? My second wave I have in the flats is 60 varieties for seed grow outs of Nicotiana Project and GRIN seed. This will add 60 new varieties to FTT's seed bank. It's going to be an interesting year.

First picture is all the flats out on my porch. grow out starts.jpg The next four are flue cure and cigar varieties from the Nicotiana Project. NP1.jpgNP2.jpgNP3.jpgNP4.jpg This is a flat of Orientals from GRIN, plus three cigar varieties from Skychaser, including Habano 2000 and Cuban Criollo 98. GRIN.jpg The NP seed were started April 29 and the GRIN seed May 6. To me, they seem to be taking own sweet time about growing, although some have recently hit a growth spurt.

definately a bad a$$ 60 types wow. Im out in california trying to get seeds started and read deluxestogies grow blog and found that temp is the main thing in this game. got myself a grow mat and light. out here its already over 100 degrees today so starting seed is complete pain in the .... I ordered some new seed because I thought it was the seed just not working but I think it was the temp took out the old seed. started the new seed in a grow tray covered with a dome they came up in 4 days kept the temp between 70-80 if it goes over i lift the lid. so I think a green house is on order for the next grow. lucky out here the last frost is from mid feb begining of march frost comes on in nov-dec so it give us more time to learn the art of growing tobacco.
thanks again for posting pics you are helping to keep up the moral of us new to art. good luck knucklehead

Even Jessica is not able to do it without help. But you will succeed. Consider 30 new varieties for big success. 40 deluxe success. 50 Head of the office. 60 hats off.

If that's all you have going, it's no wonder you spend all your time chatting. Are those sprouts for your second or third grow?

My seeds seem to start pretty good in the 90's. I take them out in the morning to full sun and in at night until it is in the 70's all night, then I leave them out all the time. The biggest thing for me is to get the starting mix soggy first thing in the morning then wait 8 - 10 days then booyah little green two leavers. Knucks my hats off to ya I'll stay around 16 different types!

thanks workhorse Im having trouble keeping the seed moist so inside with lights and a heat mat showed me it wasnt the seed. I just have to learn how to germinate for my climate. tried in the bottle that big b showed us and the bottles are just getting to hot in the inclosed space going to try that method again with a modified lid where i can rotate a damper to allow some of the heat out. sounds good in my head anyway.

I'm just going to send a jug of seed to Don and let him separate them into varieties. Keeping track sounds like an awful lot of work.

Mine don't germinate with a lid for some reason, and they don't like that coconut husk stuff. I just use miracle gro starting mix on a tv tray a half inch deep then get it soggy each morning and leave them in the sun. Go back five or six pages on my blog and you can see

covered foil pie pans worked great for me. kept the soil just moist enough that the clear lid developed condensation overnight. Once germination was seen, I ofset the covers during the day to allow air circulation. When leaf bud started showing, I removed the covers for dayytime and replaced them after dark. Watered in the morning only if the covers did not develop condensation overnight. pics in my grow blog. Only one variety did not germinate in less than 7 days. Two varieties of VA Gold were unsuccessful, not sure why; I am sure it was not my technique because 6 other varieties in the same conditions did fine and I was using two different germination methods. I had my "cake tins" and the ziplock/paper towel methods going at the same time in the same conditions. Apparently VA Gold just doesnt like me.

Keeping the covers on until first color/germination is seen basically eliminates the moisture problem. I did not water any of my germination trays for at least two weeks after setup.
