May 2 Pictures. Virginia Gold K236 on the left, Burley TN90 on the right, about 50 plants of each. I put emergency drip on these in case of drought. I fertilized a couple days ago, watered in the fertilizer and then put slug pellets around each plant. The slug pellet directions said not to place on dry ground. 
This is one of the VG. All the plants are putting on a lot of leaves, but not growing much in height. I planted them too young, they've recovered from that, but still not growing upwards much. Not sure why. 
Burley TN 90. Again, good leaves but not much height. They behaved the same way as seedlings. All the seedlings looked healthy in the flats, but really hugged the ground. Very low growth from day one. 
One row of Samsun-Maden, one row of Izmir. Brown Thumb is sending me some more Izmir. I like the Orientals they take up very little room. 
Yellow Twist Bud Row. These have fought me the entire time. They didn't grow in the flat, and they're just sitting there now. Everyone else is having great luck with YTB. 
Single YTB just sitting there laughing at me. Dirty little poopy head. 
This is a small patch of Smyrna #9 I got from BigBonner. Some of the best looking plants in the whole patch. They've been planted about a week? Maybe a little longer. 
Some Olor from BigBonner, again very good looking plants and doing well. I missed getting a picture of the Jalapa, but they look just like the Olor.

I really like the industrial permanent ink marker made by Dykem and purchased from McMaster-Carr. My first stakes were labeled with a Sharpie. The Sharpie ink just stayed on the surface of the wood and I've already had to go back over it with the Dykem marker. The Dykem marker puts down a lot of ink, is absorbed into the wood and so much ink is put down the writing slightly bleeds. So far the writing on the stakes is as visible as the first day I wrote on them with the Dykem. Zero sun fade. Now, let me tell you what is going to make my season -- the opportunity to pinch the heads off these contrary sons of biscuit eaters. Then I'm going to dismember them leaf by leaf, one at a time. I'm then going to hang the leaf in the shed with the proper heat and humidity to allow them to die very slowly. After they are dead and dry, I'm going to take their carcasses and run them through my Powermatic leaf shredder. One at a damn time. Then I'm going to stuff some of them in a cigarette tube, some of them in the pipe, and the ones I don't shred I'm going to roll up into cigars. Tightly. Then I plan to burn their sorry carcass and inhale the smoke into my lungs and hold it there for a couple seconds. At that point I'm going to blow the leaf out as smoke and watch them drift up into the atmosphere. I only wish I could hear them scream. They're messing with the wrong guy.

Nice lookin' grow! Is that you're pontoon boat in the background? I grew some YTB a couple of years ago, don't give up on just yet! Mine didn't grow as big as the sample that FM gave me, but still very tasty. How much sun do they get? I noticed a lot of shade in most of the pics.

Hey Chuck! Yeah, that's my floating dock. I priced some pressure treated lumber to build a dock and quickly decided to go in another direction. I bought the boat with no seats, motor, controls or carpet. Just a good deck and aluminum awning. Perfect for what I needed and saved a couple thousand bucks. My lake goes up and down with the water table and the boat goes up and down with it. The fish love the shade. I fertilized the crap out of the patch a couple days ago, hope to see some movement soon. 80% chance of rain today.

Don't worry that they are not putting on height now. They're growing roots. Just wait a few weeks and they'll start shooting up like crazy.
So is the grass nearby the tobacco (in a few of the pics). You might want to pull it up before the grass roots get too expansive. They both have shallow roots, and compete for much of the same resources. Once the plants are bigger, they will shade the ground, and do some of their own weed control.
So far, the plantings look promising. When they start to take off, they really are something to gaze at. Great work.

You're right. Grass pulling is top of the list after the next rain, hopefully it will rain this evening. The ground has gotten so hard my last plantings were done with a long handled mattock. This will be the last time I plant this spot. *
