These are offspring of the Mahorka number 1 I am almost certain. After returning from my homeless adventure through salem and portland, I came back here to find seedlings all around the gravel area my seeds where disposed of in. I transplanted them in chunks into these containers in hopes of saving seed. the ones in the grey pot and strawberry pot are being intentionally planted closely to reduce suckers and create a more turkish style leaf...hopefully.

The others are either seperated or will be seperated into individual pots or planted elsewhere. I have them shaded half the day in their current location in an attempt to produce milder smoking leaves.

Thanks... I seperated the closely planted ones (except the strawberry pot and stone grey pot) to.give them room.....I am hoping and wondering if one of them is N. tobaccum because the leaves come to a point.

It will be easy to tell, when they blossom, since N. rustica will have dense clusters of bulbous, yellow blossoms, while the N. tabacum blossoms will develop on longer stems, and be long, resemble a trumpet, and a lavender to red color.

Im hoping I can tell somewhat soon and move any N. Tobaccum into the full sun.

Does three hours of full sun in an area otherwise partial sun work for shaded tobacco, or will they still respond to that short time in full sun and become more like sun grown in flavor?

Having a hard time uploading pics. Looks like it is some type of domestic variety as it's leaves come to a point and the others do not. I hope it lives, though cuz mahorka is only good at about 20% in a pipe blend.... cigarettes seem to be a no though, maybe they fermented it for cig baccy... Ran out of the stuff I air cured pretty quick, the lower leaves where pretty fowl but the little rabbit ear sized ones where good...

I hope I can cure it better this year, I'm hoping planting them closely and in the shade will make them milder.

meanwhile looking around the van for 25 more cents to walk down and get a pack of largo. Next year I'll hopefully be able to invest the time and area to a nice stand of mixed burleys.

well, I woke up to all of my tobacco plants laying flat in their pots and all my little trees where tipped over in their pots.

Most of the tobacco are back upright except two of them. My plants where covered in aphids, I put chunks of garlic around the bases of the plants to repel them with some luck so far, but the ones already on the plants don't seem to be leaving because of the garlic.

Maybe I should try manual removal with a Q tip with borax on it?
