The virgina lemon was great by itself but I have bags of burley, maryland 609,firecured(aka beef jerky),flue cured red, bright leaf, and of course some turkish.

The first attempt at flue cured red and bright leaf together where really nice. I am going to case some burley this week when I get a chance to get some cocoa. I have cocoa shells already from a chocolate place nearby. I wanted to get licorice but I am confused as to what extract I need % wise. I know I can get pure 98% but it comes in 10,20,40,50,60,80,98%.

After I case some burley I was going to do add it to the flue cured and red in about a 20% ratio to see if it will marlboro it a bit more. I was just unsure of the ratio of turkish to add in and what kind of casing to add to that.

Any recommendation on firecured recipes? smells like the beef jerky gotta love it.

Don't case the Turkish. Doesn't need it. As to the proportion of Turkish, you'll have to experiment because people's tastes vary quite a bit when it comes to Turkish. Myself, I really like turkish, so in my blends it can be as much as 30%. But most standard recommendations are 10%. I like that aromatic flavor from the Turkish. So just experiment with small batches until you get it perfect for you.

As for the licorice extract, I would go for the weaker ones. The thing with licorice is you don't want to notice it in the flavor, it should enhance the tobacco flavor by making it sweeter.

Speaking with the suppliers anything over 20% is synthetic when it comes to licorice flavor. I think I will get the 20% but I have to order 25kgs. Going to have to make some candy with it too. I have a pile of invert sugars and garbage can full of cocoa husks so this is going to get interesting.

IMO the 98% extract is the way to go. You can always dilute it with a little vodka but concentrating is near impossible. I just don't like paying for "filler". I do the same with vanilla extract.

when i make snus - i use liquorice as a sweetening agent too. but i dont use extracts at all - just buy loads of the whole liquorice roots from a health shop. To make a casing - I hammer the roots then boil them up with water and reduce it down.

For completeness sake Im also growing liquorice plants this year too.

The 98% is just the synthetic sweetener chemical in licorice. The 20% is a full spectrum extract without fillers so that is what I am getting. I have 25kgs that will be on the way soon. I may have to sell some on ebay as 25kgs was the minimum order to get it.

I like to stick with natrual sourced items when I can as the 98% while "safe" who knows what it was made from so the 2% allegedly might be. The 20% is just all the other soluble crap sans plant fibers and cellulose as explained to me.

Thanks for the advice on coffee style flavors as the hazelnut might be next on the agenda for orders.

I did a little mix of fire cured in a bright leaf/fluecured red/turkish/cased burley today and it got rave reviews with just adding about 5% fire cured to the mix. A little sure goes a long way with fire cured.

I might ferment or add flue cured, fire cured, but other than that, all natural. Straight variety or mixed.

Update on licorice extract, after consulting with suppliers 10% is what tobacco blenders seem to purchase the most of. I am getting samples so try before I purchase many kilos. I will update my results of the experiments once it arrives.

Ova here in nz I go to the Chinese shops, they do soup mixes which have stuff like cinnamon curls, licorice root whole, and other stuff that doenst really matter, but u can also buy straight dried licorice root.thats wat I use and just extract it from that.cheap as chips(like$3 a bag)

Like squeezy said,u cant get more pure than that
