An "OFF TOPIC" subforum for topics such as "taxing the rain" ?? So that members may share their views in a spirited but non-offensive manner reguarding non-tobacco related topics? Kind of like a local "watering hole" for us home tobacco growers?

General is off topic not tobacco releated. What I posted is to me an outrage That I would fight tooth and nail to keep from happening in my neck of the woods. I don't care which way you lean. Some people like to pay unneccesary taxes, others don't. So lets let all the smokers fund preshool for the goverment while the rest of society feels better about themselves.

Bob,

I had a rather spirited but tacftful reply typed for the above thread only to be given a message that it could not be posted due to the thread being closed.

I was simply suggesting a subforum for such topics where our group of guys (gals) could freely speak their minds on such topics and those that did not like the content could ignore that section of this great community. Sometimes friends just need someone to vent to.

BarG/Tim I wholeheartedly agree. The idea that since I make more (work harder than my neighbor) I should pay more is simply outrageous. Our country is turning into the very thing we declared independence from.

The guy who's house we're all in has asked nicely to avoid like 1 topic of conversation here, and that's practically it for the rules there are many other places to discuss that.

Fair enough. Was just making a suggestion; since "POLITICS" are a big part of the USA we now live in it is a reality to have to deal with or discuss it. Maybe take the subforum idea to title "political"? Controversial Uncle Sam topics could be starte here; as well as topics that become unrelated/political could be moved here. Yet our group of "friends/fellow growers" would have a specific place to talk about such topics.

Just a thought; I know I am a new guy but how good is a group of "friends" getting together with a common goal (the way I see FTT) if there is no way to outlet your feelings/thoughts to eachother without consequence (not saying being disrespectful or inconsiderate of others, good manners still need to be considered).

If I can only express my feelings to my friends when my feelings and theirs are in agreement then those people are not even close to being TRUE FRIENDS.

Trying to get off the SoapBox now.

DGBAMA, if you look at the link Bob cited you will see the solution: create a private group to discuss politics.

FTT Group rules have changed since those posts of Don's . Group rules concerning religion or politics now follow forum rules. I learned that the hard way. My ass still has chaw marks on it.
You can start an e-mail circle or google group. Google groups are free and easy. Invite who you want to. All posts are posted in the group and e-mailed to every member all at one time. If you want a private conversation with one person, just e-mail that one person outside of the group. Works really good and no ass chewings.

I think it's up to the forum owners to choose the rules - it is very true that the fall-out from topics such as religion and politics can be very time consuming to clear up!

I'm very sorry for opening this can of worms - as I said, I haven't looked at the General section before and just followed the link to the topic through the latest posts section. There are many places I can discuss politics - I only come here to discuss tobacco and get very valuable advice.

Apologies to all

I agree with a political ban, my blood pressure has been running dangerously high and as passionate as I am about the state of our union. I need to get away from politics and I think it's great that I don't have to hear it.

"'The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." ... Edmund Burke

That has never been more true than today. No matter the forum, no matter the topic, no matter the rules, people need to stand up on their hind legs and get pissed. The march of Fascism is swiftly accelerating. Even the memory of freedom will soon be effaced.
