China Voodoo 2018 Air-cured and Rajangan

This is it. I promise. I treated the Isleta Pueblo as though it was an afterthought. Back alley, no special soil, only periodic sucker trims. So when I picked them today, I went through and pruned off anything which I thought might not cure. I was left with a range of leaf sizes.


Shed is at 87.5%r.h. The fan that vents it is too small apparently. If it doesn't calm down by the weekend, I think I'll upgrade.

How do you use the Rustica Isleta Pueblo? I have grow Aztec the past year and have use it in small quantities in cigarette tobacco snd in the filler of cigar to give a few "punch". Smoked pure the punch is to KO.

Smoked pure, rustica is a bit overwhelming ( to say the least...) but tastes very good. I ALWAYS add a bit of (yellow) rustica to my cigarette blend, otherwise my air-cured blend is too mild for my taste. Maybe it’s because I don’t flue cure my bright leaf, and this makes the blend ... weak.

This is the first time I grew it, and my sole purpose was to, for fun, try to cross it with N. tabacum. I don't know if you followed the thread, but I managed to get about 25 seeds from a cross between Isleta Pueblo, and Samporis.

I smoked some lugs of the Isleta, and it tasted like normal air cured lugs of any tobacco, really.

I'm smoking 2 week kilned Samporis rajangan, lower leaves (not the lugs). It's nice actually. Milder than I expected, a little sweet, and slightly acidic, and aromatic. It seems to me, that it is like an oriental.

The other Indonesian tobacco I grew, Kasturi, on the other hand is crazy. I smoked the lugs that dried on the plants, and it gives me this calming buzz that I'm unfamiliar with and makes me wonder if there's more psychoactive chemicals in it than nicotine, because other high nicotine tobaccos give me the hiccups, and Kasturi doesn't. Very nice color too.



Anyways, I think if I can over the long term, breed some rustica genes into the Samporis to make it stronger, and thicker, it'll be an interesting tobacco.

This was only a small amount. I rolled it up and sliced it with a knife.

It is not copper wire. It is copper plated carbon steel MIG welding wire. It's really inexpensive. The copper is only microns thick.

And it's low in carbon so it is easy to form.

I'm hoping to grow a small patch of the primitive strong leaf next year. I'd like to try it in some snus. Probably just use it to brighten up some Burley n make it a little stronger. I dunno...just knocking around ideas.

I feel confident that I got it all, and that it's all ripe enough to cure well.

I actually stalk harvested my tomatoes, and cantaloupes too. They're all hanging In the garage. It's nuts!
The piles of Indonesian leaf I have set aside for sun curing are all yellowing at a good rate. And the forecast ahead looks like it will be conducive to the rajangan process.

I have 250 Burley plants cut and hung and 2000 BL leaves strung so far. Might be half done. 36 degrees last night. My time is very short now. Back to my picking frenzy.

There's a finality of it that I like. But after all these changing forecasts of doom, and the 4" of (and continuing) snow, I don't think it actually got cold enough to kill the tobacco. I'll give it a couple more nights, and show you how the suckers and immature tips fared. Maybe could have gotten another month.
