I wondering if you all could help me come up with a few cigarette blending ideas.
Here’s a list of whole leaf tobacco I have on hand.
Maryland 609
Virginia Red
Virginia Bright
Virginia Lemon
Basma
Perique

The blend I’ve come up with that I've really been enjoying.
25% Virginia red
25% Virginia bright
20% Basma
20% Maryland 609 (toasted)
*After toasting the Maryland 609 I add casing consisting of a strong homemade licorice root tincture with cacao essential oil added.
10% Perique

I'm sure this blend could be tweaked a bit but every time I attempt to change it up I end up with something that's not so great.

One of my favorite tobaccos is the Basma. I've tried to create a blend that pushes this to the front but it always lacks the punch I'm looking for or the Basma just gets lost in the mix.
Any ideas on how I could blend with Basma and achieve some kick would be awesome.

From the looks of your blends they look to be lacking in the area of nicotine. Add some Burley for more punch or some Limonka ( a very tasty Rustica with a high nic content).

From a pipe smoking perspective I do not really notice any Turkish flavor until I get up to at least 30%.

Thanks for the advice. I was under the impression that the Maryland 609 was a Burley. Would a dark air cured be a better choice?

Maryland tobacco is a class on its own. Similar to, but milder than, various burleys. Maryland tobacco tend to absorb casings easily.
If you want more taste (or flavor or throat hit) substitute the MD with burley. This will give a higher mic content, together with a boost in taste.
If you’re happy with your blend as far as taste goes, but want some more vitamin N without altering the taste too much, then add yellow rustica to your blend. And let us know the results of your experiments!

Thanks for the info about MD and ways to improve my blend. Definitely looking for more vitamin N and throat hit in my blend. I’m going to search for where to purchase yellow rustica. I’ll keep in touch with results.

Finally got some burley yesterday. It’s exactly what my blend was lacking. As soon as it arrived I mixed up a small batch of what I’ve been smoking with a little of the burley and boom! There’s the throat hit and vitamin N. Crazy how such a minor addition changes everything! Thanks for the advice Peir.
