I don't even use tobacco, but some friends do, and I like to grow things, and somehow got fascinated with tobacco. I ordered Goose Creek Red and Small Stalk Black Mammoth from sustainableseed and sprouted them last May or June. One Goose Creek now has leaves bigger than the palm of my hand, but some of his brothers haven't reached dime size leaves yet. The Mammoth isn't; biggest one is maybe dime size.
Been lurking and reading for a few months sucking up your collective wealth of knowledge, and enjoying the wit and humor along the way. I'm married to a librarian, our house is stuffed with books, everything from the complete works of Shakespeare to Machinery's Handbook to a parallel Old Testament in English, Hebrew, and Greek.
I live in a big city with about a 30 by 15 foot concrete patio with about 18 inches of dirt between the concrete and the fence and walls. Much of it is already occupied with camellias, grapes, a 40 foot avocado tree, 3 citrus trees, 2 boysenberries, a hybiscus tree, and a night blooming jasmine. There's a couple cherry tomatoes, an eggplant, a couple climbing beans, and a few okra, oh, yeah and 2 jalapenos along the pretty much north edge, which is against the garage. Now pots are taking over the patio. 5 tomato pots, 2 blueberry pots, several baby avocados, and a carrot pot, geranium, rose, and plumeria, and mint. Oh, yeah, and a couple orchids.
I'm sure I can fit a few tobacco plants in there somewhere, or on the front step. Giving some to friends to grow, too.
Thinking a couple might make nice office plants. :)
Mechanical things fascinate me, and I like making things. I think it would be cool to use a rolling machine to roll, say a 1 x 3 piece of leaf into a 3 inch long straw shape, then wrap 7 of them in binder/wrapper, making a hexagonal shaped cigarillo. The 7 could be different types, with, say, a Perique or Black Cavendish down the center, surrounded by lighter colored leaf straws and the whole thing wrapped in dark leaf, for a nice visual.

Welcome to the forum. I will guess that when you say, "books," you mean those museum pieces imprinted on paper, and bound together with decorative covers. Some of our less reputable forum members also engage in that quaint hobby.

Be sure to study the Tobacco Growers' FAQ: http://fairtradetobacco.com/threads/695-FAQ-for-Beginning-Growers. Your location, if it never freezes, may allow you to grow tobacco at any time of the year. Most tobacco will grow fairly well in 5 gallon buckets, appropriately modified.

For a decorative office plant, give Macedonian Prilep a try. Any variety will grow lanky and unattractive without sufficient hours of direct sunlight, but the Prilep tends to be short, columnar and compact, with a lovely blossom head.

Yeah, the paper bricks, those are the ones. When we moved into this house 17 years ago, there were 80 boxes of them, and it's only gotten worse.

Yeah, year round growing. Funny thing about droughts - nice weather all the time. But now they're saying the most massive El Nino ever is developing and we'll have rainy tropical weather for the rest of the year. Sunny and 85 right now. Already got my one big Goose Creek Red in one of my last unoccupied 5 gallon pots, but I picked up 3 more 5 gallon buckets at Lowes the other day for less that 3 bucks apiece. Sheesh, a nursery wants 20 bucks for a pot that size. As an experiment in cheap, I made a 1 cubic foot pot out of newspaper, then wrapped it with jute twine as I filled it with potting soil. I used this folding technique with 8 full size sheets of newspaper taped together. Felt like I was folding a bedsheet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dlGQP81yfo

Wanted to grow some Prilep anyway, so I'll give that a go at the office. It's a "no smoking" facility, even outdoors within 20 feet of the doors. The rebel in me wants to take up chewing and carry a big brass spittoon into the board room. But I still remember my Grandpa giving me a big cut of his delicious looking dark chew when I was about 5, and how I happily chewed it up for about the first 10 seconds, and then spent the next half hour or so trying to spit it all out into the toilet. :)

So I want share some pictures, so I went to "Albums" and clicked on "new album" and it created it, calling it "first pics". Then I clicked on "Add Files" button in the Manager and tried to upload a .jpg file from my computer and it failed. Tried another and it failed, too.
