Isn't Dolomite faster acting than regular lime, or am I thinking of something else? What's the difference?

Home Depot said:
  • Calcitic lime is pure calcium carbonate and is the cheapest form of lime
  • Dolomitic calcium contains calcium carbonate and equal parts of magnesium carbonate

Wikipedia said:
limestone or chalk, are composed primarily of calcium carbonate. They may be cut, crushed or pulverized and chemically altered. "Burning" (calcination) converts them into the highly caustic material quicklime (calcium oxide, CaO) and, through subsequent addition of water, into the less caustic (but still strongly alkaline) slaked lime or hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)[sub]2[/sib]), the process of which is called slaking of lime. When the term is encountered in an agricultural context, it probably refers to agricultural lime.

the farmers refer to dolomite as a '' SOIL SWEETNER''.

this farmer dont use fertilizer on his p-nuts, just 2 doses of dolomite, one before planting [ which i did ] and one in between growth [ which i did yesterday ]

id be doing it now, but i had a steering tire blowout,,[ thus im home ]

Dont they make diatomaceous earth out of that stuff for killing insects.

It would be a lot less expensive to buy it by dollinate.

Most limestone is not diatomaceous. Diatomaceous earth is effective against insects because the tiny skeletons of the diatoms (which vaguely resemble microscopic snowflakes) have razor sharp edges.
