Weekly update on growth.
I think things are looking good…they look good to me

IMG_3035.jpeg

I just spotted what I think looks like suckers. Is this normal on such young plants. I thought one only got suckers when you break the head off??

My rescue plants seem to have come back good

It's not unusual to see a little sucker every now and then. Just nip it off with some scissors and keep doing what you are doing. The plants look great.
Thanks, will get stuck into them this afternoon.

I know it’s early days but I’ve also been mulling over how I’m going to plant all these out. Originally thought I’d spray off some grass around the back of the house but now I’m not so sure as it’s not very free draining soul/ground and very dense make up. What I’ve been reading here is that these plants like quite free draining soils. So I have been thinking about using potting bags now - this way I can control the makeup of the soil/mixture somewhat - at least better than what is in the natural ground without major tilling and rotary hoeing.
Does anyone have a recommendation of what bag size might work best and is there a simple “recipe” for a potting mix.
Also, Too small a bag and I’ll be irrigating too regularly and plants could become too top heavy and blow over, too big a bag and I’ll have to import more material.
How do they do in plastic potting bags?

After reading @Knucklehead post on planting in bags, I have found some nwpp bags we use for the groceries to trial as grow bags as the real deal grow bags will add up in $ this season that I wasn’t prepared for.

These bags aren’t uv stable but I suppose once the leaves on the plants are big enough it won’t be too problematic as they should shade the material somewhat. Downside is that they are quiet thin.
Am hoping that they perform the same way as grow bags and let the root system breath.
About US60c each.

One is more square so will sit better, while the other one is more rectangular I think will get unstable once it starts to get taller.

Still the odd chance of a frost so things are still inside atm.

Checked up on the little plants today after work and noticed a white spec on one of the leaves. More investigation was required.
Investigation returned a “white fly” infestation on the under side of another leave
Sprayed with natural pyrethrum - hope that was the correct stuff to use on these little plants.

Saw the below this afternoon on some of my leaves. Doesn’t look good. Can anyone tell what it is?
Was it from the whitefly I saw yesterday, or possibly from the pyrethrum I sprayed on to kill the whitefly???

I’m quite concerned.
Is this recoverable?

What time of day did you spray? Did the sun pop out while the spray was still wet?

Are you sure you had a clean sprayer with nothing left from a previous chemical?

Did you follow the directions?

There is a possibility that I sprayed and then the sun came out, just can't rememeber. @Knucklehead Do those marks on the leaves look consistent from droplet burns when the sun comes out and the leaves have droplets on them?
Are these leaves now ruined?

No other chemical in the bottle - spray bottle was bought with the pyrethrum in it.

These photos show a time lapse of chemical injury. The first photo (early) could be close to what you are seeing. Watch and see how they develop and compare to the progression in the other photos. They may end up with some brown spots. Pyrethrins have a generally low toxicity to humans.

Further development of the damage to the leaves. Looks pretty sad as it starts to turn brown. I think the pattern is consistent with the droplets on the leaves
