Hello to all. I am very pleased to have come across the forum. I find it to be a shame i stumbled into ya'll so late in the season, bu at least i know where and when to have myself set up for the next growing season. I am very much into sustainability and can wan you most of my queries will follow a similar thread. Yes, I am a gypsy of sorts. I come from Blackfoot roots on my fathers side and have the nomad gene built in apparently. I have found the perfect woman who, with love and encouragement, showed me how to sink deep roots in the heart of the Virginia Piedmont. I am surprisingly successful at sustainable farming on a small scale and am quite piqued at the idea of growing, curing, processing and enjoying my own tobacco. Not giving up the cash in taxes to the Eagle is a tremendous bonus!

Looking forward to enjoyable correspondence!

Welcome!

It's not too late to get a crop in. Even a few plants would make a proper introduction to growing tobacco.

BigBonner is our resident seedling provider. I'm pretty sure he still can ship seedlings ready to go in the ground.

Thanks for joining the forum.

Welcome Ashagg to the forum. You might read the FAQ's at the top of the opening page and then ask away. You still have plenty of time to get a grow this year. BigBonner (this forum) sells seedlings. The ones I ordered just arrived and look fine. I've had good luck with them in the past.

Welcome and the season is just started :)
I just started smoking whole leaf and it is pretty cool to pass a store up and not drop a $10 for smokes. Raise a few and order some whole leaf to blend. I started 2 weeks ago and even now my old Marlboro Southern Cuts taste like old tires and am realizing a carton a week in savings.

Welcome to the forum, Shaggy. If you've got some dirt, plop a dozen or two of BigBonner's seedlings in there, and entertain yourself all summer. Just let him know if you want varieties for cigarettes, cigars, or pipe.

I will smoke most anything but banana leaves and spinach(yuk). If ya call Appamattox Clays dirt then i got all ya need. I've already used up all my good(home rotted) compost supplying my veggies and fruits with their seasons dinner.

You can start saving the moolah right away by switching to whole leaf tobacco (if you haven't already done so). www.wholeleaftobacco.com. You can find the blend you like and have a better idea of what you want to grow. If you like cigars, grab some of his cigar leaf, he's currently stocking some of the best cigar leaf in the world. For cigarettes, the cigarette sampler is a good way to start to find what you like.

if you like cigars, this nicaraguan stuff we just got in to the US is phenomenal, i just got in from puffing another great one.

not too late to grow if you start a transplant, for my area everyone is just starting to plant for the season, and i still get crops in.

Howdy Ash!

It's good to hear from another virginian! It's not at all too late to start to sowing some seeds and I'm just south of Farmville. I should mention that I just started some seeds last week. What kind of baccy are y'all growing? Are you from Montana? I lived in Wibaux County for a time, so I guess I have some gypsy, probably the Irish ancestry that gave me the wanderlust.

Welcome, Chuck.
