Hello Fair Trade Tobacco Forums!
I'm a fellow tobacco enthusiast from Cape Cod, MA. For the last few years I've combed these forums occasionally for information about growing tobacco and the like. Recently I figured I'd make a profile and start contributing.
For about ten years, my main focus with regard to tobacco has been in pipes and nasal snuff. Aside from that, I make a point to smoke a quality cigar whenever the weather outside permits a good, quiet, wind-free smoke—which sadly isn't too often, but this makes the really good smokes all the sweeter.
Over the past two years, I've endeavored to start making snuff in the Kashubian tradition from my own home-grown tobacco, which of course is a monumental undertaking. This year is the first that I've grown tobacco with that in mind, and it's been interesting, sometimes frustrating, very educational, but above all, fun. Before this year, I hadn't ever tried growing tobacco for smokeless products, so this will be the first. Last year I had some very good Burley which I split between sun curing, flue curing, and turning into Cavendish. Thanks to this site, I also made a cool carrotte! Something else I'd love to make one day—perhaps with some of my harvest from this year—is a rope or twist tobacco like the ones Gawith-Hoggarth makes. Again, a huge undertaking, but perhaps not as hard as the snuff-making.
Anyways, I'm glad to be an official part of the community. Greetings to all of you from sandy Cape Cod.
