As the title says. Has anyone ever direct seeded any early tobacco varieties? I have some Yellow Twist Bud seeds and intend to start plants, but what would I get if I saved some seed and put it right into the ground?

You would get weeds . Back when we used plant beds we had to cover 12' x 100 ' area of plowed land with plastic and set off cans of Bromo Gas to kill the weeds and seeds . Even with using gas to kill weeds we had to uncover beds after the plants started growing and weed those beds . Plant spacing would be a problem along with seeds washing off in all directions after a rain or being buried too deep with a hard rain . Little tobacco plants need protection from wind and rain when they are small .

I had a couple plants start from seed that had fallen on the ground the previous winter. Didn't do all that well.
