Hi need some help!! Ive started my seeds 5 days ago and am not seeing any progress. Ive use miracle grow potting mix and sprinkled seeds on top and misted with water and put it by my water heater. Have seed any progress so far. What am i doing wrong. I spray with water every morning or when i see its to dry.
i have good progress on my seedlings now. They are about the size of a quarter. When should i transplant and how should i. I have them in cells but they are bunched close together and am worry they will die when i remove one from the dirt to another container.
Read the FAQ (link at the top of the page). If you need to separate them, place the contents of a cell into some water, to loosen the soil. That will minimize damage to the roots.
They are pretty resilient, and I've never lost a pot to pot transplant. Pick the best ones. Transfer them to their own cells. Keep the rest just in case. No biggie. I think you started late, right? Normally they are about 3" to 6" tall when you plant them outdoors. Seeing as your ground is warm enough, you may want to plant them early, but I still might wait until at least 2“ tall.
i pulled them out of the dirt and transferred into another cell because they were crowded. Now the ones i transplanted have not grown any bigger but the ones i left alone are growing fast. do you think i damaged the roots too much for them to grow? I brought the transplanted ones out in direct sunlight and left the untouched one inside with grow light.Any advice?
It might be the grow lights. It is common for tobacco to stop growing leaf in order to put down more root after being transplanted. This is good. You may not know, but either way, there's no sense worrying.
My advice is to make sure this is fun.
In the end, you will have more tobacco than you began with.
Don't put your seedlings in the ground if they are too small, or the slugs and worms will eat them in one night.
(I know because I did... the first time I grew tobacco in my garden, I put the first small ones in the ground and the day after they were completly gone... eaten by slugs...)
