Hey all, thanks for having me. I live in SW Michigan about 20 miles from Lake Michigan. I “retired” 1.5 years ago, so now I just putter around the house like an old man, even though I am in my early 50’s. Lol
I tried growing tobacco 20+ years ago and I could never get it to taste good. I grew about 100 plants that was a mix of burley, flue cured, and some rustica. I stalk harvested everything but I think I cut it down too early and it dried too fast, locking in too much green. Not to mention that I now know I should have primed the flu cured.
I am on my second year of using whole leaf tobacco for making my own cigarettes. I’m still working on getting a blend together that I like. First was a bit too strong, but nice flavor. The current is more mild, but the flavor isn’t very good. It is all flu cured varieties. It has too much tongue bite so I ordered some burley to try and even it out.
I am going to plant some tobacco next season. Not too many, maybe 10 to 20, and grow them in 5 gallon containers. I built a garage a few years ago and that took up most of my prime gardening space. I wish I would have found WLT and FTT earlier, but I have already learned a bunch in the past few weeks from reading the forums. Not sure I will be able to help much with questions, but I’m sure I will have some in the future.
Thanks again,
Lar
