I am kind of new to the pipe hobby. I started about ten years ago, got really busy with my business.....and really just set it aside. I have recently picked up where I left off, doing some rudimentary pipe carving, learning what I like in tobacco, and collecting Danish style freehand pipes. I have always been a bit of a farmer at heart, grown lots of our food....and thought I may take a swing at tobacco growing. I am already experimenting with purchased whole leaf tobacco, casing, blending and aging. I am really excited to learn from all who use this forum, for a long time.

Welcome to the forum. Farmer? Well...have a look at this corn cob kit: https://aristocob.com/2018-19-Homeg...-Meerschaum-Corn-Cob-Pipe-Seeds-P5681929.aspx You plant their special Missouri Meerschaum corn seed, save the fattest cobs, and then complete a couple of pipes from the kit parts. I've grown their corn, and with only about 16 to 20 plants, I got a handful of fat, usable cobs.

Be sure to read the FAQ for Beginning Growers (link at the top of the page). Also, browse through the Index of Key Forum Threads (link up there too), for some threads on pipe blending, as well as a host of other topics.

Now is the time to order some tobacco seed (my favorite site: http://northwoodseeds.com/Seed List2.htm). You'll need to start the seed indoors about 2 months prior to your last frost date, then transplant to the field after the threat of frost is gone. Kind of similar to tomatoes from seed.

Good luck on your tobacco excursions.

Bob, I actually work in a commercial dairy. My pipe is a welcome diversion from the high energy atmosphere I work in 10-12 hours a day. Now that Christmas is here, we will not be making and bottling eggnog.....which will make things easier.... Thanks for the welcome.
