Hello All,

Being really tired of big tobacco and the ever increasing taxes I decided to grow my own tobacco. I didn't know a thing but thought I would give it a try. Well, after trying for two years to grow tobacco from seed, without success, I was lucky enough to find Bigbonner somehow and he was kind enough to sell me seedlings. I now have about 30 plants, three different varieties that are growing great and I am hooked. I started investigating curing tobacco only to find that there not really any books that tell you anything of substance. Luckily I remembered Larry's reference to this forum. I spent the last few hours reading AND marveling over how friendly and helpful everyone seems to be. I was particularly fascinated by the AmaxB thread on curing but was disappointed that the build thread is no longer available. I look forward to continuing to learn as you guys keep experimenting and sharing. Thanks to all!

Welcome N40. A good place to start is with the tobacco FAQ's: http://fairtradetobacco.com/links.php?ab_s=1

Another shortcut is the Key forum threads: http://fairtradetobacco.com/threads/3868-Key-threads-in-the-FTT-forum

Answers to many questions you may have later on will be weather and location specific. If you could put a general location in your profile it would be helpful to us in trying to help you. Glad you could join us.

Which varieties are you growing? Bigbonner produces some primo plants, I bought some last year and the stems were like little tree trunks.

I got 10 each of the Burly TN90, Burley 204 and the Yellow Twist bud. He also sent me some Balisker that didn't survive shipping.

Welcome.

Starting from seed isn't too hard, if you save seeds this year, you will have plenty; experiment with germination over the winter and ask questions as needed. You will be ready for next year.

Will be in TC in a couple of weeks, and then on to St Ignace....probably the last visit with my Mother, and some time with a little brother.

Knucks, not sure the dictionary will help when dealing with MO in person, he never sits still.....I'd be three sentences behind in the first two minutes.

Welcome to the Forum.

Welcome to FTT!!! I just started my first grow too. Great people here! Very, very helpful!!!

Also, as you're waiting for yours to mature, cure, there's always http://www.WholeLeafTobacco.com where anyone can buy Leaves, an agricultural product with NO tax.
Many supplement their grow with this tobacco, while some just buy their leaf.

Once again, Welcome!!!
