Hi everyone, I am very pleased to have found this forum, I will be growing some next year all going well, but this summer I will be travelling around Italy, Spain and Portugal so if anyone knows anywhere that I can buy some Organic tobacco in those areas, please let me know, especially any farmers that I can visit and support directly.

In Italy there’s a strict monopoly: it is illegal to buy, sell, trade, barter or give away as a present raw tobacco. So I strongly doubt that you can find a tobacco farmer who is willing to sell a few leaves. Moreover it is illegal, if you by chance happen to have some tobacco leaves, to render it usable in any way (e.g. you cannot de-stem or shred it). The very few tobacco home growers here tend to have an ultra-low profile, just in case…

Thanks a lot everyone Indeed, yes I will be growing it for the bees as they really like it and the flowers are fantastic and fragrant as well as the leaves incredible scents and gorgeous to look at as well as a spray for aphids.

Ah… seems that Ireland has the same rules about tobacco that we have here in Italy… Bees do love tobacco flowers, while bumblebees seem to appreciate more N. rustica. Just for curiosity, needless to say.

At least in Italy, manitou is available. Not everywhere, but in the bigger tobacco shops it’s quite common, as are Pueblo and American Spirit.
