Hey everyone I'm a kiwi.

Have a virginia and a burley? (unknown variants) grown/growing, with some dash board cured - ok in my pipe.

Just started pipe smoking and had a couple of (unflavoured) cigars i liked.

I've got rapa-nui aztec rustica coming through, and also some unknown greenstem havana.
Not expecting to get much leaf off these, but hoping to get them to flower and set seed for me this season.
Want to plant more havana and the (definite!) burley next season.

Have a clay churchwarden and some avaerage briars. Got a bit of olive wood in anticipation of making my own pipes.

Welcome! Anybody who grows tobacco or wants to, should fit in well here. There are a few others here from NZ, it makes it easier to get through the winter watching some real time grows. It should work for you too, your winter is our summer. It's a little slow tonight, I'm trying to figure out what I want to grow, others are probably in front of the fire.

Yep and then there's little ole me -- Fire and the computer. Welcome to our Merry Band. Glad to hear you have stuff growing. Have you any experience in curing? If not this is a good place to learn the in's and out's. Bunch of good guys here. Browse and have fun. Again -- Welcome. -- John

I've been colour curing fairly successfully both hung and in piles. Fermentation; I'm dashboard curing at the moment with reasonable results judging by the smell, and have a large cardboard box, sheets of polly-foam, computer fans, and a crock pot ready to build a curing chamber - I'm just waiting on a thermostat.

I've spent most of the day reading here so far and i'm certainly picking up a thing or two!
Going to have a go at pressing a brick of VA/BU for flake for my pipe i think. I tried steaming some VA for about 7H today to make Cavendish but didn't really get any darkening.
So far I've just smoked plain baccy, but reading people's recipes I'm keen to have a go at a few low-key aros just to see the difference.

Hey FrozenThunderbolt,

Good to see more Kiwis on here - these guys are full of good information and are keen to help - don't forget the FAQ for tobacco at the top of the page.

I',ve been reading it again today - some of it makes more sense now after some of my own hands on work.

Seems to be hard to find more than the usual V Gold on trade me in nz, good to see you have the unsual rustica
