Total newbie here.

I've smoked a pipe for over a year; cigars every once in a while (Jaime Garcia's).

Never grown tobacco before and looking to start; however, I know nothing which is why I'm here. Where to buy seed/liings, how to grow, cure, and process the vaunted leaf. I know I won't have Balkan Sobranie straight from the rafters. However, I want to try my hand at what those in the 1700's here in the U.S. did.

Welcome! Start with the FAQ near the top of the page, there's seed suppliers in there and enough information to get you started. How much space do you have to grow in?

Welcome to the forum. To mix up some Balkan Sobranie White, check out the recipe for "Jewel of Macedonia" on this page: http://fairtradetobacco.com/threads/3926-Pure-Tobacco-Pipe-Blends-You-Can-Make

A great place to browse, after reading the FAQ, is the list of key forum threads, by topic: http://fairtradetobacco.com/threads/3868-Key-threads-in-the-FTT-forum

Check out www.wholeleaftobacco.com for some primo, whole leaf red flue-cured Virginia, Latakia, and Orientals.

You'll have to make your own Perique: http://fairtradetobacco.com/threads/2873-Really-Easy-Perique-Press

Bob and the late Johnlee1933 discovered a method to make Cavendish at home also. Bob was too modest to post the thread, he's really shy.

Welcome. My sis lives in dfw area.

Smart lady ;) My family lived in Ozark, AL for a couple years. Alabama is a beautiful state and reminds me of east Texas - where I grew up.

Thanks again everybody for the welcome's! I'll try to avoid the "mad" folks. I've already learned a ton in the two days since being on here.

Welcome fellow Texan! I too am NEW to this...and I'm just East of you off I-20, between Athens and Tyler. I hope we both have fun at this...save some money...and create another small legacy for our kids and their kids!
