Heya folks! Just received my first order up here in Ottawa and am looking forward to getting into the whole nuts and bolts of processing my order. I'm not much of a smoker - probably a pack every few months, if that, plus the occasional bowl of pipe smoking during the seasons when there isn't a frostbite warning lmfao. Honestly I just enjoy the taste of good tobacco, read that whole leaf is in a category of its own, and figured I'd take the plunge given the relative cheapness of placing an order. My dream is to figure out how to remake a good, strong kretek - I used to import kreteks from Indonesia and would be over the moon if I could figure out how to recreate or maybe even improve upon them!
I figure I'd start with processing my order - the sample Turkish No. 7 and the sample Balkan blend - into a mix of cigarette and pipe tobacco sizes, and was just wondering if there's anything I'm missing with my steps I've got so far:
1. Remove all the tobacco from packaging and remove the main and mid-ribs from the leaves.
2. A shredder's not in my budget nor would my wife be terribly pleased with that, so cut the leaves into long strips using herb scissors and jar them in mason jars (or vacuum seal the strips back in the bags they came with a foodsaver?)
3. When ready to smoke, cut to size using kitchen shears or a knife - smaller for cigarette rolling, longer for stuffing into a pipe.
Anyways, looking forward to getting my hands dirty this weekend, and nice to meet y'all!
