I just ran across an article I hadn't seen before by the University of Georgia discussing irrigation of tobacco. I learned some things I wasn't aware of and wanted to share. Their findings should also apply to those of us that water with a garden hose. Frequency (how much or how little) of watering can affect nicotine, sugars, flavor, yields, and could potentially even help tailor our leaf to our own preferences for a potential outcome.

I've already thought about watering and the amount of water that a tobacco plant needs. For me, the reference for this is Cuba, according to my research, the Regino Pinar del Rio has 1400 mm of precipitation per year. However, I don't know how the rainfall is distributed, and how much of that annual 1400mm rains in the growing season? However, I do know for sure that well-known tobacco growers water during the growing season when there is no rainfall. Thanks for the link, which I have to process first in peace.

Useful article. [I like the part that said that Bob doesn't really need to haul out the garden hose on a regular basis.]

Only if your soil properties, climate during the growing season, and tobacco varieties are the same.

Readers should also note that this article speaks specifically about flue-cured varieties.
