Did a pretty standard recipe. 50g of dark air cure from WLT ground in a nurti bullet blender, 50g hot water with 5g salt in it, mixed together. Lightly packed in jar and sealed. Into pressure cooker for 4hrs. Back in mixing bowl. 3.5g sodium carbonate mixed with enough hot water to dissolve it and 20 drops glycerine all mixed and cooked another 1 hr. Mixed around and let breath off ammonia.

It looks like something you could buy. Definitly not gross but its a bit bland with mostly a leaf taste, unsure what i could do to get closer to a general snus or american snuff style taste. on general snus it says natural and artificial flavors (whatever those are) and artificial smoke flavor, so its not just tobacco water salt and ph adjuster. If i could get it to taste more like that and less like a leaf id be very happy.

Quick and stupid question. When you say leaf taste, do you mean like the flavor of individual varieties like when they’re in a pipe? Like a dark air cured has a earthy, nutty kind of flavor, or like an actual dried out tree leaf?

Sometimes I'll flavor small batches with bergamot extract by taking a small condiment container, put a cotton ball in it and put about 1.5ml of the extract on the cotton and nestle the small container open and upright into a larger container containing the cooked and aged snus. It will impart a light smell and taste of bergamot into the snus. I've tried mixing the extract directly into the snus, but it leaves a bitter taste that way. You could probably use that method with other strong smelling extracts as well.

i mean the inital upfront flavor is cooked earthy nutty flavor your describing which is good. but then shortly after i get a flat aftertaste of tobacco leaf kinda like i started chewing on an unlit cigarette. suppose it sounds dumb that im saying my stuff made out of tobacco leaves taste like tobacco leaves, maybe real snus is supposed to have that kind of flavor. but i feel with atleast american market snuffs i dont get any of that like its hidden under the punch of flavor.

flavor is very hard for me to periceve and describe. like ive been chewing orignal flavor american snuff for a decade but if you asked me what it taste like i wouldn't really know what to tell you.. taste like snuff i guess  maybe i need fire cured leaves. or longer cooking. maybe i could put leaves in my smoke house to pick up flavor and use more salt. very new at this so lots of things i could try but i dont have any solid concept of what snuff taste is or where it comes from. to get closer to general snus pouches like i can get here i think im missing a smokey burn flavor factor

Thank you for replying, I understand. Maybe try adding some fire cured like your suggested, And check in the Latakia. That has a real smoky Woody flavor maybe that’ll be an interesting addition?
