Im looking to buy a meat grinder.

ive narrowed down on the LEM meat grinder.

any suggestions on whether to buy the 1hp or spring for the 1.5 hp model

its 559 for the 1hp and about another 150 /170 for the 1.5hp model

i am primarily looking to use it to out the new puppy on a raw food diet.

so i need to be able to grind chicken bones.

figured a ftt member may have crossed this bridge before...

look into some '' old school'' hand crank grinders,

i use 3 of them to do all kinds of stuff,

from grinding bat guano. that is clumpy... into a powder.

to grinding clumps of pure ammonium nitrate into a small usable substance.

ive been around a motorized meat slicer/grinder,

and unless you plan on running a lot of product thru there, youd be better off using the cheaper. hand crank grinder,

Never heard of feeding dogs raw chicken.

.

You obviously do not know the foxes and coons that pay my chickens a visit quite often... They like raw chicken very much!
As for a grinder. Usually the bigger hp the better. You can have the biggest hp in the world but if it is not geared right then it doesn't matter. The grind is usually defined by the size plate you put in to the machine. I can't think of any that would grind bones small enough for an animal to safely eat. I would think most grinders that give you a standard "ground beef" look would also yield quite a bit of dangerous bone splinters.

Also don't discount your grocery store. Most butchers will grind meat for you if you ask them, especially early in the morning when they are bored.

I'd suggest getting the biggest motor you can afford. There's no such thing as too much power.

Agreed woth hp..i like buying the big guns when i buy tools...but damn...the 1hp is 559 and the 1.5 hp is close to 790...

thats a lot of $$$$ ..but i may go with the 1.5hp...

lem markets that while they dont advertise their grinders to grind bones..they do grind chicken/rabbit and other soft bones like butter..while in the same breath that grinding bones voids warranty.....go figure

Raw food diet is the latest trend for feeding dogs and cats...the model is based on natural food for these pets is actually raw meat/small game animals...grinding the bones is to provide the nutrients of the bone marrow and calcium

further along the "barf diet" model is that commercial dog food has carbs which is what causes dog illnesses and diseases bc that is not their natural food and also causes obesity for pets.

allegedly dogs and cats digestives systems have natural capability to safely eat raw meat given that is what their bodies are made to eat

The other supposed upside is that the stool waste is supposed to be a fraction of what a dog would drop bc they arent excreting a ton of carbs which is the primary ingredient of commercial dog food.

If you google barf diet or raw food diet...theres plenty of content about this...

did a lot of research and it makes alll the sense in the world to me.

you can buy raw food in pet stores now..but its expensive...so going with the buy the tools and grind her yourself process.....

ironically this is the same process as whole leafing...instead of a shredders...you are buying a meat grinder

Breeder just called and im expecting the new puppy in 5 weeks...kids are excited...the missus....not so much ...she says...its more work...but when that furball lands in the house she will be all over it..puppies are hard to resist for anyone...

I have the Stx turbo force 1800 watt. It has ground over 75 hogs and deer with no problems whatsoever. When I bought it a few years ago the price was reasonable. [$200.00] It has 2 speeds and can grind chicken bones although I never tested that. It comes with 3 grinding plates [coarse medium and fine]and sausage stuffers and a stainless steel cutter self sharpened..

Good whole dog food, no wheat corn or soy, my Pit is allergic to corn. Are available for a dollar a pound or less if you look. And no grinding.

Veterinarians who are responsible for the care of captive wolves have abandoned the "raw food diet", in favor of commercial dog food. Why? Because the wolves live longer on commercial dog food, and tend to be healthier.

Domesticated dogs have been living off the castaway garbage of humans for 100,000 years. They are consummate omnivores.

Im probabyl going the raw food die tmethod ..but curious..what brand dog food do you buy.

i was looking at honest kitchen brand but that runs about $90 a month for medium sized dog and buying raw meat is a lot cheaper..especially chicken at .99 lb

Do the google search and it says they are 2.4 hp for the stx 1800 watt 3000 . I believe mine is an older model and not as much as that but it has never bogged down for any reason. I treat mine like a tool, take care of your tools and your tools will take care of you.

Mine is the white model and may be the 3000, I paid probably 185.00 after shipping and I researched grinders quite a bit back then. You can't touch a commercial grinder for any where near this price..

Mine have been lately , If they don't get pig or deer bones they just look at me real hard trying to melt my heart to go hunting so they can have some boiled bones.
