I gave it a real try but I'm out. It's just not for me. If anyone wants my leaf send me a pm. Sorry if this isn't cool to post but my leaf is just going to go to waste.

It takes time to learn how to roll. You shouldn't give up. I rolled maybe 20 sticks before I could get one to even smoke properly, if at all. Now, if I try hard when rolling I can make a premium cigar that looks, smokes and tastes perfect. There is definitely a learning curve. I think you should keep trying. Start with smaller sizes like a petite corona and work your way up. Watch more videos too, just watching someone else roll helps a lot and seems to rejuvinate the desire to roll one's own.

I't will be an adiction when You get one You like. You have the heart to try, and it didn't turn out like in the picture. We all have had the same out come at first. Three sticks latter, I was in heaven. Had to, not try so hard. And it worked.. Mad-

Come on, If I can do it so can you. I suck too, but they don't have to be pretty.
I had a Bud over today I havent seen in over a year and he saw my cigars sitting there and said you roll your own also.
Yep I said kind of embarrassed. He took one hit and was in heaven. Left with a starter goodie bag of leaf to try to roll his own. I have Coughed and Gagged on a few but that is what it is all about, cleaning the lungs once in a while is a good thing. Give yourself a chance.

Sorry to hear Steve. It's not for everybody so don't feel bad. If you're ever in the Orlando area and still want to learn give me a shout.

My own experience was 30 cigars before I could consistently roll an ugly, smokable cigar. It took me about 100 cigars before they started looking fairly reasonable.

If you'll explain what about the rolling was not working (maybe even post a pic of a problem cigar), perhaps a member could offer some helpful suggestions.

I wouldn't give up as long as you have leaf left. It's a leaning curve.
Go back and study the great videos on this site and then try again.
Not everyone can pick this type of hobby right off the bat.
Keep at Steve you'll get better. And as long as they smoke ok and taste ok that is what's important.

SteveSatch, I just got Your PM! I wish You to give it another shot. Butt You sound like it isn't a Thing for You to do. It isn't for most. I will roll You some sticks with Your leaf, and some of My leaf for You. Now for Our cigar folks to see what You are looking at in a stick, is Dominican Seco, Nicaraguan Habano, Corojo 99 Seco, Corojo 99 viso, Aleman Oscuro Capa/Banda. I think I can blend some nice sticks for You, including My leaf.

It takes a certain kind of person to even desire to make your own. By buying leaf you define yourself in that type of person. People who take pride in making for themselves anything are not quitters; don't give up.

Start a thread, tell us your problems, and persevere. The satisfaction of the first one that smokes right will be worth it.

When I was frustrated at first, I did the same thing as Matty, rolled small ones, and even tried to not care so much about "how" they looked, or "Trimming". You know what? They were smokeable, and I was learning. Kept doing the "Book Method" too. Entubados came later.

Thanks for all the support. I am going to send the rest of my leaf to Mad Oshea. He is going to roll it up and send it back to me. What a generous guy! I really want to be able to roll and I do plan on being able to figure it out. Hopefully by seeing cigars that someone else rolled with the same leaf I struggled with I will be able to figure some things out by comparing the size, feel, tightness of the properly rolled cigars and my cigars. Thanks Mad Oshea.

SteveSatch,
The most common problem encountered with learning to roll smokable cigars is that the wrapper is too dry and the filler is to moist.

Id sure like to give it a go .I'll take a small bag, maybe say 6-8 leaves of each . It'd be good practice for my crop I'll plant next year. Whats your varieties? pm me if you still have the offer open. Thank you
