Well it's a work in progress, still allot of kinks but it gets me by. I make an even pile of my blend, about 150 grams and roll it up way too tight to draw about 1.5 inches in diameter. Put in the PVC tube, set the pusher and shave away. The cutter is like a skew cut plane, the front is an adjustable stop for cut width and it uses utility knife blades as a renewable edge. Like I said, it's REV A.

Leverhead,
thats a nice looking shredder. Looks like you could put it into production. How long does the blade last til it dulls or gums up?

Thanks for the comments! It's way overbuilt, I needed something that I could add to, subtract from and outright change without starting from scratch. REV B will have a lever mounted cutter and stop, linear travel is too time consuming (expensive). I thought roller drawer slides would be a fun experiment, they're just more trouble than they're worth. Cheap and easy blade renewal was the first thing on my wish list, utility knife blades work like a champ. Each one will cut over a pound before the fines get excessive, I've sharpened the blade 3 times so far with a stone and strop (I was born a Yankee). Gumming, I think is going to be a fact of life. With the leaf moisture content at 15-20%, I clean the bottom of the cutter after every roll of tobacco (it's sticky stuff). There are ways to beat the problem but none would be cost effective.

I need to use it this weekend, I'll take better pictures of it then.

You can sharpen those disposable blades real fast and easy with 100 -120 grit sandpaper and a flat surface. I heated up a worn out file and ground the teeth of one side flat and ground a one sided bevel , then retempered and sharpened. Hasn't needed resharpening in close to a year.Just watch your fangers, you don't want to be smokin no nails. A section of file or tempered steel cut to fit your shredder would probably work like a champ. Be sure to post pics on any changes you make. I bet the gumming is due to the small amount of exposed cutter. A thicker blade with more bevel might solve that. Just some thoughts on a fine piece of work.

i got some crazy ideas, for a possible shredder creation,,, incorporating a little of what ive seen that works ,so far...

but definattly base it on the gilitian idea,,

Is that the one where you make a small compressed brick and feed in a square or rectangle hole, then press the blade down.

Leverhead ,what part of houston? I'll be making a trip there soon for a couple of deliverys. One a project I'm building and another a baby delivery.:)

For those that live far enough north to know how to make a snowball, I wad it up and tease it out a couple of times to put a crinkle on it. The first time I did this I made several large balls, several times, with bare hands. It gave me quite a "kick", so now I use a plastic bag.

We need a video in action ;)

I had thought about that, but all that would be interesting would be my thumb and index finger pushing the cutter back and forth. The disk coming off the roll of tobacco rolls off the blade like a cold cut. I want to change the feed to a link belt top and bottom of a chute and get rid of that damn tube. If that works well, it'll be worthy of a motor and a video. Otherwise, I roll up my blend and it stays tangled up when I tease it out which I like, I've got the cut width set for 1/32 inch and the tobacco handles real easy. If it wasn't such a fight to use, I'd love to show it off.

Iv'e seen it. Its a nice piece of work. Your like me Steve , your own worst critic.

Any new invention has room for improvement.

My cutting board is neanderthal compared to it , But I like it. It saves my brain cells for other shit.
 Iv'e got to few to waste.
