Hello all,

I have already browsed the forum a bit and am very excited to have found this community. I have been enjoying cigars for several years now. My wife and I recently purchased an old farm property in western Pennsylvania with the intent to move our family there. Since we now have the space for a garden after several years of not being able to garden, I decided to also do a test run with some tobacco plants alongside the usual vegetables. We have been bordering on drought conditions all summer here but despite that, and despite getting everything set up from scratch (grow lights, fencing, tiller) and running painfully late, my 22 tobacco plants are doing okay and are currently 3 to 5 feet high. I have some PA broadleaf, FL sumatra, CT broadleaf, PA red, a couple Havana varieties, and Dominican wrapper, which I acquired by seed from Victory seed company. I know time is fast approaching when I need to figure out what to do with these leaves so that, hopefully, in a few months, I might have some homegrown cigars. So I will be pouring through all the info in this forum in a mad scramble to get up to speed! I appreciate you all being here to share your knowledge and experience.

I welcome you to the forum, as I enjoy a breakfast of a home-grown Lancaster Seedleaf (2019 crop year) cigar, and a mug of coffee.

Bob

EDIT: The variety labeled "Dominican Wrapper" (named "Wrapper Dom Rep" in the USDA ARS-GRIN database accession) is definitely Dominican Olor.

Welcome to the forum from me in NZ. I know you will have a great time with us. Ask any questions and someone will have the answer. Your baccy seems a little thirsty it is wilting. Must be hot.

Yes definitely thirsty, we have had about 15 days over 90F this summer (rare here) and have only had less than a couple inches of rain in the last 10 weeks or so! I've been hauling water in drums to try to keep these babies alive.

You seem to be doing a great job hauling water, but as Bob has said end of day wilting in hot weather is common. Mine do the same but my water hauls itself. My well overflows all the time and I control the flow to wherever I want it. The excess flows to the drain. The plants you have are good looking so you get some nice baccy out of it, enough to get the taste for home growen anyway. You will enjoy it. The very best of luck with it.
Oldfella.
