You guys have been very helpful in the past with offering advice and suggestions, so I'd like to tap that resource again. This is a new logo I'm working on for the Whole Leaf site.

logo.jpg

I was thinking about making each leaf a different color, brown, yellow and?...Dark brown?, green?...or just leave it black and white / brown and white. Each leaf can be colored then overlay

What are your' thoughts?

In the days of printed letterheads, one color on a paper color background would have been normal. On a computer screen, color is free and easy. Maybe a darker, redder brown, a lighter brown and a yellow in the middle for contrast would work. I worked on a PDF catalog quite a while ago that we used a landscape layout rather than portrait layout because it fit the screen better and was never going to be printed. Time changes things!

In black and white, it looks too much like the upper part of a maple leaf. Colors would definitely help.

To tie the two sites together, one option would be to use the FTT logo, but change the words to Whole Leaf Tobacco.com, with WLT in the scales at center. It could possibly be cheaper also.

When the grocery chain Food Giant sold the business, the new owners changed the name to Food Lion. The use of so many common letters reportedly saved millions of dollars on stores, letterheads, advertising, etc.

EDIT: OK my bad, Food Lion used to be Food Town. Still only two letters were changed.

I would agree with using color (excluding green). I would also suggest the each of the three leaves be of a different basic shape, rather than identical.

There's always got to be one in the crowd :)

Three different leaf shapes to indicate different types is a really good idea. Only thing left to do is find those other two types....hmmmm

I just realized that the b/w image uses the CT Broadleaf that's shown in the FTT logo. I'll look through my collection of flat leaf images and find some interesting candidates.

I actually lifted four pics from your blog, but unfortunately, I might be too late to have the leaf alterations done to the logo. Introducing the colors won't be a problem, but the different leaf types might have to wait until next time.

I think it would look good with a yellow leaf in the center and the two outside leaves: the first one brown (lighter side of) and the last one - the color of cocoa. And the same concept with the FTT Logo. The scales and all. The center letter being a big "T" as it is for Tobacco. With the "W" and "L" in the scales. The letters with the scales would be better to be inside the yellow colored leaf. And the leaves folded in "tipped up" toward the center one. I do like the realistic look to the forum leaf.

I just looked back up to re-read what you said...

brown, yellow and?...Dark brown?

Light brown, yellow and cocoa.

Those colors seem to fit the spectrum for Cigarettes, Pipes and Cigars. Types of Tobacco.

The colors I've selected are

They're not perfect, but this won't be the finished logo. When I design my cigar band, the colors will be mottled like in the FTT and WLT logos and that art work will become the final logo....maybe even have a couple of green leaves wrapping the cigar

The green leaves wrapping the cigar sounds like a very good idea.

Three leaves standing up with the logo in center. Then on each end - the green leaves - having the bottom stem touching (but tucked underneath) the light brown and cocoa colored leaves (setting sideways). The greens leaves that come off from the sides should probably be smaller in width.

Thanks Amax, but the leaves have to be somewhat animated so they will color, copy and print properly...like the FTT logo leaf.

What type of tobacco is the orange colored leaf. Looks like you've got Shade wrapper, Flue Cured, Maryland(?) and some home grown Turkish.

How close am I?

FM, I agree with Bob on the different leaf shapes, even maybe a hand of tobacco. The colors look good and can show a distinct contrast.
