Hi All,

I love a good cigar and have recently caught the bug to maybe roll my own and save some money. I would also like to plant some good cigar tobacco next year, in order to start my own personal supply. This site looks like it is full of the kind of information and tips that I will need to accomplish my task.

Some years ago, my Grandfather acquried some type of tobacco seeds and planted them in his garden the following year. He used about 3 of the 12 plants that he grew and gave me the rest. I hung these in my garage, allowed them to dry and then processed them into pipe tobacco for my Grandfather and made some chew for myself. I'm ready now, to really get into tobacco growing, processing and consuming!

I live in central Indiana and there is little to no tobacco farmers in my area. Actually, none to my knowledge, so I will be relying on this forum a bunch, to help guide me to success! Any how, I'm glad to find this site and thank you for allowing me to join.

The founder of this forum, FmGrowit, owns www.wholeleaftobacco.com. He has the best cigar leaf available. I personally prefer the Nicaraguan fillers and the Maduro wrapper, it's like rolling my own Padron's. But to start with I recommend the cigar and wrapper sampler packs to find your own favorite. If I didn't grow my own cigarette leaf, I wouldn't grow at all. Don's cigar leaf is that good.

Welcome to the forum. If you place your location in your profile, it will appear beside each of your posts, and other members will find it easier to answer your questions.

For a first grow, you may find filler varieties easier to bring to completion than wrappers, though FL Sumatra is a fairly easy wrapper variety to grow in full sun (medium strength, medium brown). Little Dutch and PA Red fillers are a favorite of many members. Glessnor is a binder variety that's quite forgiving, and also makes a sturdy wrapper.

How many plants were you considering growing?

Thanks for the welcome. I have been reading and youtube-ing alot. I'm trying to do my research and will try not to ask any repetative questions. I have recently placed an ordered with Wholeleaf.com and I can't wait for it to get here. Thanks again for the welcome and the advice.

What persuaded you to make a purchase from wholeaf.com over WholeLeafTobacco.com? Because their prices are higher?

Actually,

I made a mistake when typing. I ordered from the sponser (WholeLeafTobacco.com) of this forum. I mis-stated the website, foregot the tobacco part. Sorry !!

Hope it's not held against me!!

I ordered the cig sampler from Don at whole leaf tobacco the first of last week and I hope it arrives today. I can't wait to see it and have a smoke. Yesterday I bought some rolling papers so I will be ready.
