So I am pleased my package from WLT arrived. Packaged very well, and the leaf looks amazing. Have yet to roll anything, but didnt want to break out the leaf from it package till had had a bit of a plan ready for storage of the remaining leaf. The initial plan is not to roll them all at once, but to take my time and enjoy the process. So id case a day or two before and roll what I cased, store the rest. My home stays at around 68-70F with 50-53RH. The plan is to place the remaining leaf in airtight tupperware. Given my home temp and humidity, can someone share what I might need to be concerned about? Thanks

Open the WLT bags by carefully cutting of the sealed top of the bag. Remove just the leaf you plan to use immediately. Express air from the bag, and roll the top several times. Clamp this with a chip clip or several wooden clothespins. (I use wooden clothespins, available for cheap at a Dollar store.)

Case:
Filler should be in low case (a little noisy, may crack a bit, but will not crumble). It is usually ready to use right out of the bag.
Binder should be in medium case--flexible and be at least as quiet as thick vinyl.
Wrapper should be in high case--flexible, stretchy, limp, and completely silent when you handle it. The surface should not feel wet.

For beginning rollers, I always recommend that you roll one, smoke one. If you roll multiples, before sampling them, you will need to roll more cigars for the same amount of learning. If the filler is in low case, then the cigar can be smoked immediately. [They taste nicer after resting a day or three, but your initial goal is to consistently roll a cigar with an acceptable draw. Beauty comes later, and so do nuanced taste tests.] I also suggest not using a mold, until you can free-roll a decent cigar. Getting the draw right when using a mold is more difficult, and is a separate skill to acquire later.

Other members have other approaches.

Good luck. Have fun. Do post a pic of your first cigar in the Pics of Your Sticks thread. We love to see them.

I have clips and the tobacco stays moist in the vapour proof bags. I have tobacco plastic tubs that are good for storing shredded tobacco. For fillers you can put them in ziplock bags. That will allow the flavours to meld. If the leaf gets dry just mist it with water.

My first cigar, sadly it's paper. Saw a video about doing this and figured id give it a try. Real cigars to come this weekend. Im feeling fairly comfortable with the process I think. Only major quandry I had was selecting a bunching method. I've settle on doing this as Bliss Cigars shows on YouTube, and roll entubado. I am also contemplating rolling just one leaf w binder, to taste each of them. Anyway, I'll post pics when I have em rolled

You've been studying. that's good but, know that most likely, your own first hand trial end error experience will go a long way. Well done!

Prepping American CT Shade wrapper. It's reminds super thin rose pedal. Wow, gonna make beautiful cigars mind I don't stretch it to far, or worse yet....there are pointy edges in the binder. Stuff ain't gonna forgive you, that seems perfectly self evident. And I really don't have to worry about over case, as the stuff just dries out after 2 min sitting on the table. But maybe in about 8 more hours it's will relax some more for me. Currently it's stacked, misted and folded and in a plastic baggie. Have to wait and see what happens next. This is gonna be a challenge, so excited now.27431

I do like to case up the leaf to get all the wrinkly crinkles out so, I can get it to sit flat for bunching. I will bring the case down before I bunch because, wet bunches are hard to dry and won't burn.

Something else I'll do is let the bound filler dry to a degree before I apply the wrapper.

I use planks of wood to mist and, wipe down the leaf then, rotate it in a large tub when casing up.
I'll keep the filler in separate tubs than the wrapper/binder because the case is different for assembly.

I will pull out the leaves for each cigar as I assemble to keep it from drying out. otherwise, I'll run a humidifier when I can commit the time.
Typically, wrapper goes in a lightly dampened towel while assembling.

Your RH of 50-55 is indeed more challenging to roll in than something like what I roll in, 70+, which closely approximates the more tropical places cigars are typically rolled. I've had periods of a week or two where I'd planned to bunch or wrap but the RH never got above your range, so I didn't do it. Just too much hassle. I know some guys who've had to but one of those essential oil diffusers off Amazon for $20, put distilled water in it, and run it near their work space for a while, and during their roll sesh. They say it works great. If you end up going gung-ho on the hobby, it's something to consider. Good luck. Oh, and if you have any of that Flojo left, I'd case it up and unpeal it so that you can tube it properly. Alternately, tear it into skinny strips and lay those into the center of your tubes.

Paraguay flojo viso. Don't see this being rolled entubado. Is this stuff always this homely?

Yep, it's a little fugly compared to flat dried leaf, but well worth it. Makes great cigars. I don't try to roll it entubado. I grab a quantity, then use a flat leaf of another variety to roll around it, making a mini cigar. Place a couple of mini's together and apply the binder. Much easier to work with that way. I roll my home grown Little Dutch using the same method as it was impossible to cure flat.

I use paper towels, half sheets. Paper works fine.

I have a question that I think applies to this thread. I’ve attached a picture of my store containers from dollar store. I put each type of leaf in its own container. Some are more full than others. Is this a good storage method? I was wondering, since tobacco tends to absorb a lot could the plastic leach into it?? Are there better ways to store?
