“Hi everybody!” I’ve been researching and reading about tobacco and the varieties. Last year I ordered a pack of seeds just to try growing some and none sprouted. This year I decided to research to see if I could figure out why - still don’t know but I’m thinking it was the seed as none of my seeds from that company sprouted. I’m good at sprouting plants, terrible at keeping them alive; I can kill a cactus. I live in S TX and would appreciate tips on growing. Most likely they’ll be in a raised bed. Do they grow well with other plants (edible/herbs) or should they grow separately?

Welcome. Thank you for joining us.

http://northwoodseeds.com/ has a great selection of seeds and is a member of the forum. His seed are germination tested. I’ve personally had excellent results.

I use MiracleGro seed starting mix (not the regular potting soil) in the 1020 trays and water from the bottom. The soil wicks up the perfect amount. Don’t use fertilizers with urea as that can kill seedlings. Its okay once established in the patch. I use a urea free orchid fertilizer 20-10-20. Others have their own methods. A lot of good reading here, enjoy!

Cacti are surprisingly easy to kill, tobacco not so much once you get past the first few weeks. Northwood seeds will have some very good seeds and the best selection you can find for varieties at a very good price - not a sales pitch, I'm a customer. They have some tips on how to start them as well.
You can grow them in the garden and with other herbs, but keep in mind most varieties will get big, especially in Texas - but isn't everything bigger there:)

The seeds need warmth, humidity & light,so don't cover them with soil.I use a propagator with most types of seeds.
