I did see this post earlier but we all agreed in a secret meeting to ignore it..:)

But seriously.. It is an OK source of nitrogen if you do not farm/garden organically. Nitrate of Soda is Sodium Nitrate and while supplying a nice dose of nitrogen it also supplies a nice dose of sodium. If you've had a soil test and know what your nitrogen and sodium levels are then by all means use it. I do not know what the release rate is though, some fertilizers such as Ammonium Thiosulfate are considered "hot" because they release nitrogen so fast that it can be detrimental to the plants. Others such as Blood Meall release nitrogen real slow so it feeds the plant for several months. There are others forms of nitrogen such as Ammonium Sulfate, Fish Meal, Potassium Nitrate, Calcium Nitrate and Bat Guano. Pros and cons to most of them as usual.

I knew it!
Ok so it adds sodium thats the kind of feed back I'm looking for.
On the other hand here where I live it RAINS A LOT I Repeat IT RAINS A LOT
So this years crop it isn't going to be a problem.
Now next year could be different.

hope im asking this in the right place. so i get that the most important thing seems to be nitrogen. i looked up fertilizer 0-0-0 meaning and found the second number to be phosphate. i dont want any phosphate in my tobacco garden. however, i read that it helps develop root systems, ( which i see being quite important from seed to seedling stage at least). is there an alternative to promote root growth that wont leach out polonium.

also, ive heard that epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) is a great fertilizer. wiki says it is good for,
"magnesium-hungry crops, such as potatoes, roses, tomatoes, peppers and cannabis."
since baccy is related to tomatoes and peppers, i was wondering if anyone has tried this?

A soil test is definitely a good thing. Tobacco will grow pretty well with the addition of nothing but.. it will grow better with the soil balanced. There's a lot more to the soil than just NPK. There's selenium, copper, iron etc. And lets not forget that a good soil test should break down your nitrogen levels so that it reports both the nitrate nitrogen and the ammoniacial nitrogen.

Wear a filter mask when you handle dry bat feces. In the US, inhaled dust of bat feces is a source of rabies exposure. No joking.

Ammonium nitrate is used by commercial growers. It is quick release. It is also the base for a powerful explosive as it is a strong oxidizer but you can still buy it in small bags (20/25 lb.) at most feed and seed stores. I do not believe it leaches out anything.

I went down to the Hard Ware Store and ordered a bag of Nitrate Of Soda They said on the phone it was $13.49
So when I go in the store they rang it up at $8.88 I said I thought it was $13.49 and said it must be on sale.
Every where else on the internet it was 5 to 25 bucks plus shipping at 4 pounds plus the cheapest was 20 something dollars.
They order it through there catalog it will be here this Thursday. So I started some Burley Mammoth KY16 seeds to get things going
for this year.

I was at Agway (our pseudo farm store) and asked for ammonium nitrate. The gal said they didn't have it. I explained I wanted hi nitrogen she said she had urea (something) that was 46-0-0 in 50# bags and fast release. What's your thoughts on that?

They are outlawing pure nitrogen because of people making bombs with it . It is highly explosive and I do mean highly . You can take one pound of it mix with the right stuff and it would destroy a car .
If you look up tannerite you will see a version that you shoot with a high powered rifle and it will explode . These are nitrate ground up with a chemical added . No im not going to mention what that chemical is and amounts . But lets just say you take 224 grams of nitrate and it only takes 12.5 grams of one secret ingredient to make the target .The tannerite videos don't do justice as to how powerfull nitrate is .
Tannerite is legal as it gets mixed on site and used . If you put a fuse to it it becomes illegal .

Now to get nitrate they are coating the nitrate with lime dust to keep it from being used as a exslplosive .

Urea works like nitrogen but it will evaporate more than nitrate . You will use less pounds of urea as compared to nitrate .

My neibor shot a tannerite bomb the other day. A friend said he got his 50 cal. I said I think he got his cannon.
