Hello all! I have been lurking around in your treads for awhile now and I think its time to Introduce myself!
My name is Niclas and I live in western part of Finland and this is my first year growing tobacco! I bought some seeds of eBay and now i have some tobacco sprouting in the apartment, to my wife's delight i might add:rolleyes:. Since i'm a virgin in every part of tobacco growing and processing i will probably haunt you with a lot of Q's :D.
Well that's it for now and thanks for the great site. Been enjoying reading all about your efforts and endeavors, particularly in the growblogs!
Keep up the good work!

Welcome aboard!
Indoor growing is possible, with plenty of light.
A tobacco plant should have a 20 liter container, or larger, for full growth.
Be cautious not to over water.

Niclas, if you'll add a general location to your Profile, we promise not to tell Finnish jokes while you're logged on. ;)

Thanks for the welcome!
I read somewhere in some of your old treads that orientals could be planted relatively close together, especially izmir?!
Didn't find any results from your experiences and it left me wondering if i could, with decent success, grow say 8-10 plants in car tyres about size 17-18"?
Grew some corn in them last year and got some nice cobs for the grill!

Thanks, i have about 80 plants and i'm currently scouting for a grow plot nearby.
Either way i was considering putting a couple of plants on our small porch and if a 20l container is enough i will most definitely try it out.

Yes, read that tread earlier and it was where I got the idea with the tyres. Very good reading. Just wondered if any of you tried planting with the 10 cm density? Watched a youtube video where a commercial grower planted criollo and it couldn't be more than 30-40 cm between the plants... So what happens with the tobacco if they are planted to close together? Loss of quality or quantity or both?

I did suspect that you were the same dude , nice to have another scandinavian here in the forum.
What I can guess on your question is : Quantity since some of of the plants are not being able to get as much light as some of the others will , that's my guess.

Ok, thanks! Enough with the questions for now :p! I thought that tobacco growing would be more popular in our countries since we have so high taxes! But even in finland where snus is strictly forbidden to sell i could find pretty much no info nor any fellow growers when searching on the web!
Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I think its time for me to read up on the fermenting and processing part!

Welcome to the forum Nic, I hope you've a nice growing season. Asking questions is always encouraged. More often than not, it ends up with brilliant ideas or solutions that are helpful for tobacco growing enthusiasts.

What do you intend to do with your tobacco when it's harvested Nic ?

Smoke or snus ?

Mostly snus. Since i do smoke and have a small collection of cigars i would like to roll some up and smoke it too, in one way or another.
You do mostly snus right? Do you ferment it or just air dry the leafs? Btw, watched your video with the meat grinder and it looked like a efficient way to get the leafs to snus-size conditions.

Thanks, I'm hoping for a good summer this year. Since I live about 400 km south of the polar circle the weather can be a bit rough, even in the summer. But with some nice weather in June i hope the 18 - 20 h of daylight can help the crops grow big and tall!

When the lowest leafs have changed colour I saw the hole plant off , the I hang it upside down to mature = shifting colour on all leaves from Green to yellow/brown.

After that I take all the leaves home and hang'em up to dry.
