Got these from BigBonner. They are doubling in size almost weekly. Got around 2 tenths of rain yesterday so hopefully that will keep them going for a while. They were planted May 14th if I remember right. tob1.jpg tob2.jpg tobacco.jpg

Our soil here in central illinois is literally some of the best in the world. Its almost like potting soil, its black as coal and has a real fine texture, which explains why farmland sells extremely high. 80 acres just up the road from me sold at auction last month for $14,200 per acre.

Great looking plants man.
And yeah, all I could say when I saw your soil was, WOW!
I'd have to space my plants 10 feet apart just so I could look at that soil through the whole grow.

Wow I haven't been on here for a while!!! I appreciate the comments on my 2012 crop. That was a crop of Virginia Bright Leaf, burley and YTB. I didnt get a chance to even plant a regular garden this year let alone a patch of tobacco. We had an extremely wet spring. By the time things dried out I was busy planting corn and soybeans. That ol dirt there is as real as it gets. Got 1,100 acres of it that grows a nice crop of corn and soybeans every year.

I appreciate your kind comments. Yeah our family has been in it since the early 1800's. Farmin sure has been easy the last few years with the good yields and prices, but it looks like that's getting ready to come to a halt. 30 years ago our 1,100 acres would have been considered a big operation, but nowadays it's pretty small. Lot's of 10,000 acre guys in our area and a few as big as 40,000-50,000. I'm 33 years old, when I was a kid you could buy good black dirt all day long for $2,500-$3,000 and acre today that same land is bringing $12,000-$14,000 per acre. Same way with renting farmland, used to always stay in the $120-$150 per acre, now it's $400-$600 per acre. Times are a changin I guess!!!! But it does look like things are gonna get back to somewhat "normal" prices here in the next year or so.
