quo155,
Congratulations! Nice first cigar.

With the following leaf case, you can roll the cigar tightly, and still get a good draw:
  • wrapper: damp and stretchy [high case]
  • binder: moistened enough to be fully flexible, but not damp [medium case]
  • filler: just soft enough to not crumble to pieces when scrunched [low case]
Scrunch up each filler leaf separately, then combine them. From your pic, a cigar that size could use more filler.
The binder just needs to compress the filler well. It can be ragged and ugly.

Using such fairly dry filler, you can smoke the cigar immediately, even though the wrapper is still damp.

Thank you Bob...

My experience: Yes, my filler ended up very "messy" as it crumbled no matter what I did. The binder was about the same. I tried moistening it over time but it just ripped and broke no matter what I did. I believe I found the issue with the binder, there was a very tiny hole at the bottom of the bag like it had been caught on something. Who knows where it came from, could have very easily been from me handling it...nonetheless it needs some attention for the future! The wrapper was great...but I kept ripping it while trying to pull it tight. I did not have the filler right, tight enough...so it went downhill from there. But...as I said earlier...I had a good time, enjoyed doing it...and there is much to learn!

Well...I finally did it! I rolled my very first cigar today!

I am pleased that I finally attempted it...however it looks like crap, it's too "loose", I had a heck of a time with the leaves...most might be embarrassed but you know what? The best part of all of this is that I did it! I had the help of many here (though I won't name names as I might embarrass you!)...and........in the end, I had FUN and look forward to many more!

BTW (ADDED BY EDIT): I meant to add that I rolled this with nothing but my hands. I have not done the book method, or any method at this point. I just wanted to get my hands on some leaf and go from there....ahh...the great road ahead of me!

It's sitting in the wineador for now.

Thank you all for the push...help...and now, without further a do...

I think that is one nice looking first roll! I would smoke it in public with a smile. The next one will get better.Mist the binder with distiled water first ahead of time.

How'd it smoke?

You get a better feel for what case the tobacco should be in, the more that you roll. I have had to barely mist the filler and let it set for a bit, in order to not have it crumble. At times, I have moisten my wrapper and binder and let them sit over night. The sticks take more drying time but makes the tobacco easier to work. You could have your wrapper and/or binder too wet and that is causing the tearing. I have done that myself.

Its deffinetly a learning experience. An enjoyable one at that!! Congrats on your first roll...

ill be danged, sounds pretty ingenious, how did you come up with that.
It was pretty easy to come up with it. I got it from the way I roll with a dollar bill. Pinch tuck and roll. I'll post You some pics on the way I do it on a dollar bill. It is exactly the same as the larger leather tarp way I do it. You may get a chuckle on how easy it is.

This is the dollar roll. Take a dollar and fold it at bottom as in pic #1. I put 10% Izmir, 40% burly and 50% Vg Gold in this mix. Then at an angle put the binder in pic# 2. Pinch with both hands and roll away from You letting the binder follow the roll. ( binder is complements of AmaxB) MD 609. At the end fold the binder the other way and pinch off some of the left over and start over in the dollar. I use pectin. The stick shown has no pectin. It will go back in the can. Just to show how I do it real quick befor I go out to the patch. ( ugly little guy LOL)
Roll the stick in the dollar and put a rubber band on it for a while to set up and fire it up.dollar cigar 008.jpgdollar cigar 007.jpgdollar cigar 006.jpgdollar cigar 002.jpgdollar cigar 001.jpg

Excellent job Quo155 !!
I'm rolling also my first ones !!
Yesterday smoked my first one !!! It was still to wet, my binder and wrapper leaf were to wet and it is raining here for two days so 85+ humidity.
But i could not wait any longer ... so I give it a go, very nice taste, very strong, think I used to much ligero, will work on that.
Here is a picture:

Yesterday arrived my third mold, so now I have a 38, 48 and 52 gauge. I see in which on it fits best and put in that mold.

No need for words on that post! I'll have a box of those sir. Very nice. The size is My kind of stick for when I am at work. JUST RITE! How long is the burn on that one? 10-20 min?

M.O. - Not sure on the burn yet. Let'n the little fella dry a bit. I actually rolled a few more, as seen here. I will report back on the burn. These are made from various scrap and were rolled with "a quick smoke" intention.

I love the little guys. I can hand roll a cig. in 15 or less seconds. But on My little turds, I roll on the table or I use the dollar roll. As the crappy post on it I did. It however takes Me a few min. to do a nice one. I have spent up to 5 min on a big one. Sometimes it isn't the tast- Its the kick. LOL I use My scap the same.

Hey M.O.,

Burnt one of those little guys and it burned for approx. 25 min. Not a super quick smoke but it was flavorful...

My latest batch:

9AIIw0K.jpg

An assortment of Ecuador Shade, Ecuador Maduro, and Cameroon wrappers; binders are all Aleman, and fillers are various combinations of Dominican Ligero, Colombian Seco, Paraguay viso, Brazilian viso, Cameroon seco, and Sumatra seco (not all at the same time
smile.gif
). Also in a few of these I threw in a leaf of VA flue cured - thought I'd see what a little cigarette tobacco does to the flavor profile. I think I got the idea for doing that somewhere on this forum.

Looking good Bruck!

I rolled a bunch today, anywhere from quick mini's to entubado style 60 rg, scraps too. Gave some to a friend of mine today, haven't heard back yet, probably out on the porch smoking a few. Knowing him, that's a good sign!

I'm getting a little too quick at this, going to order more leaf on Wednesday. Wrapper and a filler. Then again after the 1st. That one will be to refill all the seco I've been burning through.

Love this hobby!

ps: now where oh where did I put that camera? Probably tomorrow's search.
