Just for curiosity sake - how many leaves on average are you guys using and for what size of vitola?

Just enough!

Honestly, it depends on the mix in the cigar. The leaves vary considerably in both shape and thickness depending on variety. I usually sort my leaves, de-stemmed, into piles by type, then build my first cigar blank, taking note of how many of each leaf it took to get the correct size and weight. I.e. half a leaf of X, 4 halves of Y, and 2 halves of Z. That then becomes the recipe for that batch.

For medium-size cigar leaf, 2 leaves of filler make a small corona; 4 leaves of filler make a fat honker. No measuring, sorting, weighing or worrying. The catch is that I seldom use a mold. So the cigar I end up with is always just the right size--however it comes out. You can make all this complex and arcane, or just wing it.

This bad boy has been aging in one of my humidors for over a year. Box press, filler Silver river, Havana, Corojo 99. Wrapper/binder Pennsylvania. All from BB if I remember correctly. Very very nice. Rich, chocolately, a touch of spice with a slight floral note. Yum! Liquid libation a Rye and Root. I’m enjoying a balmy 70F evening before the next cold front roars through this weekend.
